{"id":11066,"date":"2013-05-25T10:15:45","date_gmt":"2013-05-25T05:15:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/?p=11066"},"modified":"2013-05-25T10:15:45","modified_gmt":"2013-05-25T05:15:45","slug":"syria-agrees-to-geneva-peace-talks-in-first-confirmation-that-assad-is-prepared-to-meet-with-opposition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/en\/?p=11066","title":{"rendered":"Syria &#8216;agrees to Geneva peace talks&#8217; in first confirmation that Assad is prepared to meet with opposition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/s1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-11064\" alt=\"s1\" src=\"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/s1.jpg\" width=\"306\" height=\"423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/s1.jpg 306w, https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/s1-217x300.jpg 217w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" \/><\/a>The Syrian government has agreed to a conference on the country&#8217;s future proposed by Russia and the United States, Russia&#8217;s foreign ministry said today.<\/p>\n<p>The Syrian government had &#8216;agreed in principle&#8217; to participate in the conference in Geneva which is expected within two weeks, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in televised remarks.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Lukashevich, however, said that it was impossible to set the date for the conference at this point because there is &#8216;no clarity about who will speak on behalf of the opposition and what powers they will have&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Russia and the US joined efforts earlier this month to convene an international conference to bring representatives of Assad&#8217;s regime and the opposition to the negotiating table.
