{"id":23900,"date":"2013-07-13T20:26:47","date_gmt":"2013-07-13T16:26:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/?p=23900"},"modified":"2013-07-13T20:26:47","modified_gmt":"2013-07-13T16:26:47","slug":"family-of-five-set-themselves-on-fire-outside-nepalese-government-offices-in-india-in-protest-against-threat-to-their-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/en\/?p=23900","title":{"rendered":"Family of five set themselves on fire outside Nepalese government offices in India in protest against threat to their home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/The-family-were-protesting-against-a-threat-to-demolish-their-home2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-23898\" alt=\"The family were protesting against a threat to demolish their home2\" src=\"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/The-family-were-protesting-against-a-threat-to-demolish-their-home2.jpg\" width=\"634\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/The-family-were-protesting-against-a-threat-to-demolish-their-home2.jpg 634w, https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/The-family-were-protesting-against-a-threat-to-demolish-their-home2-300x135.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/The-family-were-protesting-against-a-threat-to-demolish-their-home2-500x225.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 634px) 100vw, 634px\" \/><\/a>A family of five set themselves on fire in an act of desperation against a threat to demolish their home.<\/p>\n<p>Four of the Nepalese victims &#8211; a mother, her two sons and their wives &#8211; died after the shocking protest inside the grounds of government offices in Rajkot, in Gujarat, western India.<\/p>\n<p>Hasumati Dalvani, 62, her sons Bharat Mansingh, 40, and Girish Mansingh, 38, and their wives Asha, 35, and Rekha, 33, had poured kerosene over their bodies before setting themselves ablaze.<\/p>\n<p>The family has been battling the government&#8217;s attempt to demolish their house &#8211; their shelter for 35 years &#8211; after residents complained its construction was unsafe.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses tried to extinguish the fires with pieces of curtain material, but were too late.<\/p>\n<p>Both sons and their wives died of their injuries at Rajkot Civil Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Sanjay Shah said: \u2018They had sustained 90 to 95 per cent burns to their bodies. They were in a critical condition.
