{"id":30137,"date":"2013-08-26T21:24:08","date_gmt":"2013-08-26T17:24:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/?p=30137"},"modified":"2013-08-26T21:24:08","modified_gmt":"2013-08-26T17:24:08","slug":"chinas-internet-hit-by-biggest-cyberattack-in-its-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/en\/?p=30137","title":{"rendered":"China&#8217;s Internet hit by biggest cyberattack in its history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/china-ddos.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-30134\" alt=\"china-ddos\" src=\"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/china-ddos.jpg\" width=\"620\" height=\"348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/china-ddos.jpg 620w, https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/china-ddos-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/china-ddos-500x280.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a>Internet users in China were met with sluggish response times early Sunday as the country&#8217;s domain extension came under a &#8220;denial of service&#8221; attack.<\/p>\n<p>The attack was the largest of its kind ever in China, according to the ChinaInternetNetworkInformationCenter, a state agency that manages the .cn country domain.<\/p>\n<p>The double-barreled attacks took place at around 2 a.m. Sunday, and then again at 4 a.m. The second attack was &#8220;long-lasting and large-scale,&#8221; according to state media, which said that service was slowly being restored.<\/p>\n<p>Official state media said the attack targeted websites with the .cn country domain, as well as the popular microblogging site <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2013\/04\/30\/technology\/alibaba-aina-weibo\/index.html?iid=EL\">Sina Weibo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Denial of service attacks aren&#8217;t technically &#8220;hacks,&#8221; since they can be done without breaking into any systems. Typically, DoS attacks overwhelm a website&#8217;s servers by <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2012\/09\/27\/technology\/bank-cyberattacks\/index.html?iid=EL\">flooding them with requests<\/a>.
