Milli Majlis amended the Electoral Code, which involves changing the date of the upcoming presidential election.<\/p>\n

The fact is that the presidential elections were scheduled for October 16, 2013. However, this year October 15-16 are non-working days on the occasion of Kurban Bairam (Holy Sacrifice Day).<\/p>\n

Therefore, it was decided to amend the legislation. Now, if the election falls on a holiday non-working day, the day of voting is postponed to another day of the month.<\/p>\n

The amendment will enter into force after its approval by the President and published in the press.<\/p>\n

The bill, however, does not specify for how many days the forward elections could be postponed.<\/p>\n

According to the Head of the Law and Development Center Hafiz Hasanov, the elections should be postponed to a later date.<\/p>\n

Much more alarming is the amendment to the Constitution of the possibility of canceling the elections in connection with military operations, he said. -06B-<\/p>\n
