{"id":52355,"date":"2013-11-20T19:53:57","date_gmt":"2013-11-20T15:53:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/?p=52355"},"modified":"2013-11-20T19:55:32","modified_gmt":"2013-11-20T15:55:32","slug":"india-to-put-monkeys-on-the-pill-in-bid-to-tackle-rising-population-of-marauding-macaques","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/en\/?p=52355","title":{"rendered":"India to put monkeys on the pill in bid to tackle rising population of marauding macaques"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Rhesus-Macaques-in-New-Delhi-India.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-52352\" alt=\"\u0540\u0576\u0564\u056f\u0561\u057d\u057f\u0561\u0576,\u056f\u0561\u057a\u056b\u056f\u0576\u0565\u0580\" src=\"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Rhesus-Macaques-in-New-Delhi-India.jpg\" width=\"507\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Rhesus-Macaques-in-New-Delhi-India.jpg 634w, https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Rhesus-Macaques-in-New-Delhi-India-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive2.ankakh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Rhesus-Macaques-in-New-Delhi-India-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 507px) 100vw, 507px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Indian council chiefs have come up with a novel way of dealing with a scourge of marauding monkeys &#8211; putting them on the pill.<\/p>\n<p>New Delhi is currently plagued by thousands of red-bottomed Rhesus Macaques or Bhandar monkeys and their population is rising.<\/p>\n<p>The primates often attack people to steal food, chew through internet cables and roam free through government buildings.<\/p>\n<p>In 2007 Delhi&#8217;s deputy mayor SS Bajwa died after falling from his first-floor terrace trying to fight off monkeys.<br \/>\nThe city had previously employed monkey catchers who would use larger black-faced Langur monkeys to scare the smaller primates away.<\/p>\n<p>But the practise was banned earlier this year forcing officials to come up with a new solution.<\/p>\n<p>India&#8217;s Central Zoo Authority got in touch with the National Primate Centre in California which recommended using oral contraceptives, female sterilisation and vasectomies, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>The oral contraceptives will be put in food and left for the monkeys to find while those that can be caught will be sterilised.<\/p>\n<p>Professor P.C.
