Police say all 16 occupants of two jeeps returning from a wedding were killed in a head-on collision with a speeding truck on a highway in eastern India.<\/p>\n
Police officer Kalyan Mukhopadhyay says the victims in the jeeps were returning home early Tuesday after attending a wedding at Sahapur, a village nearly 400 kilometers (250 miles) north of Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal state.<\/p>\n
He says 13 people died on the spot and three later in a hospital.<\/p>\n
He added the truck driver had been arrested.<\/p>\n
India has the world’s deadliest roads, with more than 110,000 people killed annually. Most crashes are blamed on reckless driving, poorly maintained roads and aging vehicles.<\/p>\n
