False Accusation Linking Armenian To Boston Bombings Should Be Condemned

Many unanswered questions remain in the wake of the barbaric Boston Marathon bombings last week.

In the absence of established facts, it is difficult to reach an informed conclusion and find a motive for the murderous actions of the Tsarnaev brothers — Tamerlan, 26, and Dzhokhar, 19. It is interesting to note that Tamerlan carries the name of a vicious 14th century Turkic warlord who razed entire cities to the ground and butchered millions of innocent people.

Instead of jumping to unwarranted conclusions and making generalizations about Chechens, Muslims, and the Tsarnaev family, some probing questions are in order:

— Back in 2011, when the Russian intelligence services asked the FBI to investigate Tamerlan’s radical Islamist ties and plans to join underground groups, how thoroughly did the FBI carry out this task? If the FBI agents did a thorough job and found nothing sinister, why did they not follow up a few months later when Tamerlan returned to the US in 2012, having spent six months in the troubled Russian republics of Chechnya and Dagestan? And why did US law enforcement agencies fail to investigate the Jihadist videos and links to radical Islamist websites found on Tamerlan’s computer?

— If the Russian tip was not seriously pursued by US officials, was their decision based on political considerations or a proper assessment of the risk of terrorism? Since Chechen insurgents were fighting Russia for independence, did US officials prefer not to meddle in an internal Russian conflict? Did the US view Chechen “terrorists” as “freedom fighters,” concluding that they represented no threat to the United States? More significantly, what role did the anti-Russian stance of influentialneo-conservative American circles play in assessing the warnings on Tamerlan?

— Did the Russian intelligence services thoroughly investigate Tamerlan when he fell in their lap while visiting Dagestan and Chechnya for six months, particularly if they were dissatisfied with the FBI’s lukewarm response to their earlier request?

— Would this terrorist act killing four Americans and injuring close to 200 now prompt US intelligence agencies to cooperate more fully with their Russian counterparts to jointly combat terrorism regardless of international political concerns?

— Will the US investigate the 10-day visit to Turkey in July 2003 by Tamerlan and three of his family members, as disclosed by Turkish Interior Minister Muammer Guler? What was the purpose of Tsarnaevs’ visit to Turkey and who were their contacts?

Turning to Ruslan Tsarni, the talkative uncle of the Tsarnaev brothers, who made controversial and contradictory comments disseminated worldwide by CNN, NBC, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, and Time magazine, among others. Uncle Tsarni accused an unnamed Armenian convert to Islam in Cambridge, Mass., for radicalizing Tamerlan!

Tsarni, a Maryland resident, told the NBC Today show that one of his Armenian acquaintances informed him about an “outside influence” on Tamerlan: “He [the acquaintance] said, there is someone who brainwashed him [Tamerlan], some newly convert to Islam. I would like to stress [the acquaintance] was of Armenian descent.”

However, Uncle Tsarni, gave CNN a completely different explanation for the despicable actions of his nephews. He had accused them of being “losers,” claiming that they had brought shame on their family and the Chechen people. But, he later told NBC Today that he had called his nephews “losers” out of anger, and that he was now sure their crime had nothing to do with Russia or Chechnya. Tsarni also contradicted himself on CNN by claiming that the person who had “brainwashed” Tamerlan was the “new convert to Islam of Armenian descent,” not the acquaintance!

The question is, who is Tsarni and why is he accusing an Armenian? A cursory internet search reveals that he has had direct ties to western energy companies involved in the Caspian region. He has worked for Big Sky Energy, Golden Eagle Partners, and Nelson Resources Ltd., all three with direct investments in Caspian Sea energy projects. Could Tsarni’s ties to these energy companies explain his accusation against an Armenian?

Finally, why hasn’t a single Armenian organization or official complained to the news media about their dissemination of Tsarni’s baseless and libelous statements, accusing an Armenian for radicalizing Tamerlan? A similar situation occurred years ago, when an Australian newspaper, The Canberra Times, reported: “Pope Shot by Armenian Gunman.” In reality, Pope John Paul II was shot by Mehmet Ali Agca, a Turk!

It is high time that Armenians organize an anti-defamation organization that would vigorously pursue all those who libel and defame them around the world.

Kansas woman comes face to face with escaped circus tiger during trip to bathroom

tg1A central Kansas woman got the shock of her life on Saturday when she found herself sharing a bathroom with a tiger.

Salina resident Jenna Krehbiel was at the Isis Shrine Circus with her daughter when she decided to take a trip to the bathroom during the show.

The big cat had escaped briefly after its turn in the ring and had wandered into the bathroom while staff hunting for the beast blocked off concourses at the Bicentennial Center.

When Krehbiel walked in the door that hadn’t been blocked off, she found a tiger standing about 2 feet away, The Salina Journal reported.

Chris Bird, manager at the Bicentennial Center, said the bathroom was only 25 feet long.

‘Once she saw the tiger, I’m sure she knew to go the other way,’ Bird said. ‘Overall, it was a scary, surreal moment. I am glad no one was hurt or injured.’

The tiger was captured within minutes and returned to its enclosure.

Krehbiel, a social worker, said she didn’t scream or run because she is trained to stay calm.

Krehbiel said her 3-year-old daughter had a different reaction.

‘My daughter wanted to know if it had washed its hands,’ Krehbiel said. ‘That was her only concern. I think that shows the thoughts of children and that they wouldn’t have known there was danger.’

Boston suspects’ mother says FBI asked about son

3Բոստոնի ահաբեկրության կասկածյալների մայրը ասել է, որ ՀԴԲ-ն նախկինումThe mother of the Boston bombing suspects was called by the FBI years ago to ask if her eldest son had been radicalised, she said in an interview with a British TV station broadcast on Tuesday.
Zubeidat Tsarnaeva told Channel 4 News that US federal agents had approached her about her eldest son Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, who was killed in a shootout with police on April 19.
Tamerlan’s brother Dzhokhar, 19, has been charged over his alleged role in the attack on the Boston Marathon and remains in hospital with gunshot wounds.
Their mother told Channel 4 News: “They were monitoring him (Tamerlan) — and I know that because I used to talk to them. They used to come to our house, like two, three times.”
“What happened was a terrible thing,” she said. “But I know that my kids have nothing to do with this. I know it. I am mother. I know my kids.”

Heroic father punches out alligator to save his son from the reptile’s jaws

a1A terrified Florida father got into a fistfight with an eight-foot alligator Friday to save his son’s life.

Joseph Welch and son Joey, 6, were on a canoe trip through the Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge in Boynton Beach when the boy fell into the water and the waiting alligator’s jaws.

‘I heard these blood-curdling screams and I saw this gator that had his right arm in his jaw and I just freaked,’ Joseph said.

a2Joseph told Local 10 that he immediately jumped into the water to save his son.

The alligator wasn’t wasting time either.

‘He just swam up to me and clamped my arm,’ Joey said. ‘He didn’t wait for a second.’

Joseph feared a struggle could tear the boy apart.

‘I didn’t want to play tug-of-war with the alligator and get his arm ripped off,’ Joseph told WSVN 7. ‘So I started punching the alligator on top of the head as hard as I could.’

Luckily an unidentified good Samaritan joined the man-versus-beast brawl and booted the alligator in the stomach.

Joey escaped with minor injuries and the gator was later tracked and killed by authorities because of its aggression.

Once on the attack, alligators are relentless.

Kaleb Langdale, 17, had his arm bitten off by a ten-foot long alligator last summer.

‘(I) knew I either got to lose this arm or I’m gonna die,’ he told reporters.

The Hand Prints of the Culprit by Rosario Teixeira

Watertown-1Watertown, MA – During the month of April 2013, Peace of Art, Inc., will be displaying the Armenian Genocide commemorative billboards to honor the victims of the Armenian Genocide, calling for recognition and condemnation of the genocide.  Peace of Art, Inc. is a nonprofit educational organization that uses the universal language of art to address human concerns and to promote peaceful solutions to conflict. www.Peaceofart.org.  This year the billboards will be located in Foxboro, Watertown, and Cambridge.

On Easter Eve, March 30th, a 10’x 30′ digital billboard will be on display on Route 1 in Foxboro, MA, 1/4 mile south of the main entrance to Gillette Stadium and Patriot Place.  A second 11′ x 27′ billboard will be on display on Mount Auburn Street, Watertown, in the heart of the Armenian community, close to the Armenian cultural centers and churches. In addition, a third 11′ x 27′ billboard will be on display on Cambridge Street, near Lechmere Station, East Cambridge.  This area, with high traffic and high visibility, is the gateway between Cambridge, Boston, and Somerville.

The artist Daniel Varoujan Hejinian, president and founder of Peace of Art Inc., said that “with these billboards we are honoring the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide, calling upon the international community to recognize the Armenian Genocide, and to condemn the perpetrators.  He added, “98 years have passed but the bloody hand prints of the horrible events of 1915 stained the pages of the world history, when 1.5 million Armenians lost their lives.”

The 2013 billboard depicts the bloody hand prints on the words ‘Armenian Genocide’ over a black background.  Since 1996, Mr. Hejinian has been calling for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.  In 2004 Peace of Art, Inc. began to sponsor the commemorative billboards honoring the victims and calling for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.  This year’s message further calls for the condemnation of genocide.

To date, the Armenian Genocide has been recognized by over 20 countries and 42 U.S. states. However, in spite of his campaign promise to recognize the Armenian Genocide, in the last four years President Obama has failed to use the term genocide in reference to the slaughter of Armenians, which took place almost to a century ago.  Once again we urge the President on his second term, to honor his first campaign promise.

The Armenian Genocide is not a matter of concern for Armenians alone but to everyone.  Genocide is a crime against humanity.  Without recognition and condemnation, the Armenian Genocide remains a wound that continues to bleed, under the hand prints of the culprit.
