Whole school banned from zoo for two years after pupils MOONED at monkeys during trip

A school has been banned from a zoo for two years after a group of children decided to moon at monkeys.

The 14 and 15-year-olds from Radclyffe School in Chadderton, Greater Manchester, were kicked out of Chester Zoo during a school trip.

There were around 300 GCSE pupils from year 10, but as a result of the actions of nearly children, they all had to get on the buses and go home.

The zoo said that 29 pupils were involved, but headmaster of the school Hardial Hayer disputed this saying that only 24 children took part.

Officials at the park said they had no option but to enforce the ban on the entire school taking trips there in future. The ban will last until 2015.

Some pupils bared their backsides at the monkeys, while others hurled food at them and it is alleged that there was also damage to property.

A zoo spokesman added: ‘We welcome schools to the zoo on the understanding that the students behave in such a way that does not cause problems for their fellow pupils, other visitors, the animals or staff. Fortunately incidents of this nature are extremely rare.’

The trip took place on Thursday last week as part of the school’s end of term activities.

Chester Zoo is one of the most popular zoos in the country with more than 1.4million visitors every year.

ANCA WELCOMES MARKEY SENATE VICTORY

ed_markey_koutoujianBOSTON, MA — The Armenian National Committee of America Eastern Region (ANCA-ER) joined with friends from across the Massachusetts Armenian community in celebrating Congressman Ed Markey’s victory in Tuesday night’s special Senate election. Markey (D-MA-5) led at the ballot box against Republican businessman Gabriel Gomez throughout the day and won by a 10-point margin.

“We are very excited to see Rep. Ed Markey assume this new role in his career of public service. The ANCA of Massachusetts joins with Armenian Americans from across the state and country in welcoming his victory, and we look forward to his continued leadership on issues of concern to our community,” said Mikael Garabedian of ANCA-Massachusetts, who was among the Armenian-American contingent on hand to celebrate Rep. Markey’s success at his victory party.

Since he was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1976, Rep. Markey has been a strong and consistent advocate on Armenian issues, receiving multiple “A+” ratings from the ANCA in its Congressional Report Card.

ed_markey_koutoujianRep. Markey has been outspoken in support of U.S. reaffirmation of the Armenian Genocide, cosponsoring all related legislation introduced in the U.S. House, including the Armenian Genocide Truth and Justice Resolution (H.Res.227), introduced in May of this year. In his annual Armenian Genocide commemorative statement submitted for the Congressional Record this year, Rep. Markey explained, “Almost one-hundred years have passed since the Armenian Genocide, yet the suffering will continue for Armenians and non-Armenians alike as long as the world allows denial to prevail.”

In May of 2006, in the aftermath of the State Department recall of U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Evans over his proper commemoration of the Armenian Genocide, Rep. Markey shared his concerns with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and rallied 60 of his U.S. House colleagues to request State Department clarification of the White House action. “We must not allow the perception to linger that he [Ambassador Evans] is being required to vacate his position early for accurately labeling the cataclysmic events of 1915 as genocide,” Rep. Markey and legislators wrote in the May 22, 2006, letter to Secretary Rice, adding that Ambassador Evans “did nothing more than succinctly repeat the conclusions enunciated by those before him.”

As Ranking Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee, Rep. Markey was a vocal opponent of H.R.2362 – The Indian Tribal Trade and Investment Demonstration Project Act of 2011 – which would have unfairly limited foreign trade preferences on Indian tribal lands to only one country, Turkey. In remarks made during July 23, 2012, House consideration of the measure, Rep. Markey explained, “By acknowledging Turkey’s ‘unique interest’ in developing tribal economies and in building ‘robust’ relationships between it and tribal communities, this legislation rewards a country with a terrible history of human rights and religious freedom violations, threats to U.S. commercial interests in Cyprus, and –most importantly–its refusal to acknowledge the Armenian Genocide which resulted in the deaths of 1.5 million people.” The measure was defeated in a floor vote.

Since the independence of the Republic of Armenia, Rep. Markey has been a consistent supporter of robust U.S. assistance to Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, annually joining colleagues in urging the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Foreign Operations to maintain high-levels of funding, given the dual blockades of Turkey and Azerbaijan. In 2008, he joined over 50 of his Congressional colleagues in calling on then-Secretary Rice to challenge Azerbaijan’s threats of renewed war against Armenia and Nagorno Karabagh, and to take concrete action to hold leaders in Baku accountable for actions that directly undermine the Administration’s policy of fostering peace and stability in the South Caucasus region.

Rep. Markey has developed close ties with the active Armenian American community in his district, which includes Watertown, Belmont, Waltham and Lexington. He has been a frequent participant in Armenian events in his district, attending church bazaars and, in recent years, the hugely successful Boston Kermesse street festival. He has toured the Hairenik Building in Watertown and has closely worked with the ANCA of Massachusetts and other Armenian organizations over his extensive career.

The June 25 Massachusetts Senate special election victory means Rep. Markey will fill now Secretary of State John Kerry’s vacant seat for the remainder of his term, ending January 3, 2015.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has resigned, after the Australian Labor Party voted her out of its leadership Wednesday.

130321174405-gillard-australia-story-topShe had called for the vote herself after months of inner-party friction.

Her rival, former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, takes her place as party leader, after winning the internal ballot by a margin of 57 to 45 votes, according to an ALP spokesman.

He is now Australia’s de facto prime minister and could be sworn in within hours, if Australian Governor-General Quentin Bryce approves him for the office. The governor-general shares the role of head of state with Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II.

In a news conference after the vote, Gillard said she was grateful to have had the opportunity to lead her country.

“This privilege was truly humbling. I thank the Australian Labor Party for that privilege and I thank the Australian people for their support,” she said.

“When I first put myself forward for consideration for Labor leader in 2010, I had the overwhelming support of my colleagues to do so. I thank them for that. And I thank them for giving the opportunity to me not only to serve the nation but to serve as the first female prime minister of this country.”

Gillard said she had written to the governor-general to inform her of the ballot result and asking her to commission Rudd as prime minister. She will go to see Bryce later Wednesday.

Rudd is widely popular with Australian voters, who go to the polls in September to pick a new parliament and government. The ALP has not felt confident it could take an election victory with Gillard at its helm.

Supporters within the ALP circulated a petition calling for Rudd to challenger Gillard’s leadership, but he initially refrained. In the meantime, at least eight of the ministers in Gillard’s Cabinet resigned, purging decades of experience from her government.

This week the prime minister had had enough. Despite no official challenge from any rival, she put her power on the chopping block and handed her party the ax.

“I do think it’s in the best interests of the nation — and in the best interests of the Labor Party — for this matter to be resolved,” she said as she called the vote.

Reluctant Rudd

In a jab at her rival, Gillard complained in an interview with CNN affiliate Sky News Australia this week that no one had approached her to mount a leadership ballot in a traditional manner.

“Call me old fashioned, but the way in which these things are normally done is a challenger approaches the leader of the Labor Party and asks them to call a ballot for the leadership, you shake hands and then a ballot is held,” she said.

Gillard called for any challengers to put their names on the ballot, which would be the last one she would call to challenge her position.

Three hours before the vote, Rudd picked up the gauntlet.

“Various ministers have been free and frank in their public advice to me as to the desirability to contest the leadership in recent days. For the nation’s sake, I believe it’s time for this matter to be resolved,” he said in a statement sent to journalists.

The showdown was set in stone.

Rudd has said that he will not use his win against party rivals.

“Every effort I have in my being will be dedicated to uniting the Australian Labor Party. No retributions, no pay backs, none of that stuff. It’s pointless, it’s old politics,” he said.

Loser leaves

In March, Gillard threw down a similar challenge to her power as the rivalry sapped strength from her government. Rudd refused back then to challenge her, and she won the vote of confidence from her party and kept her job.

But she continued to lose support within her party.

In her interview with Sky News, Gillard said the loser of Wednesday’s vote should get out of the way for the sake of a functioning government.

“If you win, you’re Labor leader,” she said. “If you lose, you retire from politics.”

In her post-vote news conference, Gillard confirmed she will not seek to retain her constituency seat in September’s general election.

Indian journalist criticised for filing report from the SHOULDERS of a rescued flood victim in disaster region where 1,000 people died

An Indian journalist has been criticised for appearing on television reporting from a disaster zone while sitting on the shoulders of one of a flood victim.

Narayan Pargaien was in the state of Uttarakhand reporting on floods which have devastated the region when he made his unorthodox broadcast for News Express.

But he has denied the suggestion that he exploited the man by sitting on his shoulders while on camera, insisting that the flood victim ‘wanted to show respect’ because he had never met anyone as important as the journalist before.

A video of Mr Pargaien reporting on the floods swept the internet when it was posted to YouTube earlier this month, with many Indian web users criticising him for apparently using a disaster victim to keep his feet dry.

One commenter denounced him as ‘a disgrace to journalism’, while another said he was ‘a ridiculous reporter’.

In an interview Mr Pargaien, who has nearly two decades of reporting experience, admitted that he was wrong to file the unorthodox report, but said that he only sat on the man’s shoulders after the victim had invited him to do so.

He also blamed his cameraman for revealing the bizarre arrangement, claiming that he had been told he would only be filmed from the waist up.

‘It wasn’t my idea to begin with, but there was this man who took me to his home and asked me to report the damage he had suffered,’ Mr Pargaien told News Laundry.

‘His house was in a miserable condition and he had lost a lot in the flood, and was left with very little food and water.

‘We helped him with some food and some money and he was grateful to us and wanted to show me some respect, as it was the first time someone of my level had visited his house.’

The reporter added that he had paid the man, whom he refused to name, 50 rupees (55p) for his troubles.

He admitted that his actions were ‘journalistically wrong’, adding that he had ‘no problem getting my feet wet’.

The horrific floods in the northern state are believed to have killed 1,000 people, with many thousands more stranded in remote mountainous areas.

The phone will include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor which Sony says is the world’s fastest processor.

The phone was launched today at the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai, alongside the Sony SmartWatch 2 SW2, a ‘second screen’ for any Android phone worn on the wrist.

Riots Kill 27 in Minority Region of Far West China

Riots in a restive far western region of China on Wednesday killed 27 people and left at least three injured, state media said.

The official Xinhua News Agency said knife-wielding mobs attacked police stations, a local government building and a construction site Wednesday morning in a remote town in the Turkic-speaking Xinjiang (shihn-jahng) region.

The unrest in in Lukqun, a township in Turpan prefecture, left 17 people dead, including nine policemen, before police shot and killed 10 rioters, the agency reported. Xinhua cited officials with the region’s Communist Party committee.

Xinjiang is home to a large population of minority Muslim Uighurs (WEE’-gurs) but is ruled by China’s Han ethnic majority. It has been the scene of numerous violent incidents in recent years, including ethnic riots in Urumqi in 2009 that left nearly 200 people dead.

Japan imports wolf URINE and plays recordings of lions roaring in bid to keep deer from running onto the highway

deerWolf urine and lion roars are being used by transport bosses in northern Japan to tackle the growing problem of collisions caused by deer.

The number of accidents caused by the animal has more than doubled in Hokkaido – the northernmost of Japan’s four main islands – in the past ten years.

As a result, transport officials have taken drastic action. As well as spraying wolf urine near roads and railways they will also be broadcasting the roar of lions to try to keep the deer away.

The urine is being imported from the United States to spray on the island’s highways.

The deer population in Hokkaido was nearly wiped out in the early 20th century because of overhunting and sometimes brutal winters.

But conservation efforts – and the extinction of the indigenous wild wolf population – led to their recovery.

Hokkaido Railway Co earlier this year erected equipment that broadcasts the roar of lions in an effort to keep the timid animals away from its tracks, a spokesman said.

jamgochian_pallone_lsiBETHESDA, MD – Congressional Armenian Caucus Co-Chair Frank Pallone (D-NJ) joined an enthusiastic crowd of more than a hundred Maryland community leaders and activists in a strong show of support for House of Delegates candidate Hrant Jamgochian’s June 17th campaign fundraising kick-off, reported the Armenian National Committee of America – Greater Washington (ANCA-GW).

The reception, graciously hosted by Mrs. Nancy Greenspan at her Bethesda home, was an opportunity for area voters and supporters, including a diverse cross-section of the local Armenian American community, to stand with Jamgochian’s campaign and support Hrant’s positions on a broad range of local and state-wide issues, ranging from health care and education to the environment and economy.

jamgochian_group“We’re pleased to see Hrant in the lead as the front-runner in this race, and proud to support his campaign every step to victory,” said ANCA Greater Washington Chairwoman Sevan Kolejian. “We look forward to helping Hrant spread his message to Maryland voters and to playing our part in electing Maryland’s first-ever Armenian American to state-level office.”

In remarks voicing his support for Hrant’s campaign, Congressman Pallone cited his own long and productive working relationship with him on healthcare issues, saying: “He [Jamgochian] is an extraordinarily respected and strong voice on patients’ rights and works tirelessly in the non-profit sector to advance healthcare rights to the most vulnerable members of our society. As the Ranking Member in the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, I can tell you that Hrant has got it right when it comes to good democratic values and a true commitment when it comes to access affordability and quality of care for all Maryland residents.”

Jamgochian explained, “This election is about values, and communicating those values to our neighbors. We believe in protecting the most vulnerable members of society, in fostering an affordable and accessible educational system, and in an economy where people pay their fair share and we are able to find jobs in the fields we have spent years preparing for.”

On hand to lend their assistance to the Jamgochian campaign that evening were three of this year’s ANCA Leo Sarkisian summer interns: Manoug Alemian, Taleen Lachinian and Tamar Purut. “Hrant’s enthusiasm and commitment to community outreach and empowerment was inspirational,” said Lachinian, who had met Jamgochian and his wife, Lenna, the day before at the Soorp Khatch Armenian Church Father’s Day Picnic. “We need more Armenian Americans in elected office, and it’s encouraging to see dedicated professionals like Hrant devoting their lives to public service.”

Russian scientist wants ‘Satan’ missile shield to shoot down meteorites in wake of Urals strike

soviet era missile A Russian scientist has said a Soviet-era ballistic missile system dubbed ‘Satan’ should be put back into use defending the earth from asteroids. Senior rocket researcher Sabit Saitgarayev – who spoke out after a meteor burst over Russia’s Ural Mountains earlier this year damaging thousands of buildings – said the old 1960s missiles were ideally suited to destroying any potential threats streaking towards the planet from space. The researcher said the missiles, which use standard liquid fuel based on hydrazine, were ‘well-suited’ to fighting ‘suddenly discovered small [space] objects, according to a report on news.com.au. It means a missile could be launched against an approaching asteroid with a mere 20 minutes warning, in contrast to modern missile systems, which require several days of preparation ahead of a launch. Scientists claimed the meteorite that exploded over the Urals was the biggest space rock to hit earth in more than a century. Mr Saitgarayev claimed Satan missiles would be capable of destroying objects with a diameter of up to around 300ft. If equipped with a booster, the 1960s missile would be able to destroy a space object hurtling towards earth while it was still five to six hours away, he said.

Woman’s breast implant explodes after lying on her stomach for four hours playing game on her iPhone

breast implantA Chinese woman’s breast implant ruptured after lying on her stomach for four hours playing a game on her phone.

According to Chinese news reports, the woman from Beijing had been playing the game in bed when she felt a pain in her chest.

She was taken to hospital and SZNews reports that a doctor said the low quality of the implant, combined with the pressure of lying on it for an extended period of time, had caused the rupture.

It is not clear if the woman had the breast implant replaced – she apparently had the surgery to boost her low self-esteem.

In 2011, a woman’s breast implant was apparently ruptured when she was shot in the chest while paintballing.

The 26-year-old was hit at close range during the game in Croydon, south London.

Last year a Texas woman filed a lawsuit claiming that one of her breast implants ruptured because a police officer used excessive force during her arrest.

Pakistan suspends mountain treks after militants kill ten tourists

Pakistan on Monday suspended expeditions on its second-highest peak, evacuating climbers from Nanga Parbat after 10 foreign tourists were shot dead by Islamist gunmen at a base camp.

Well-armed and well-prepared attackers dressed in police uniforms stormed the camp at the foot of Nanga Parbat late Saturday, shooting dead the climbers and a Pakistani guide at point-blank range, officials said.

“We are shocked, traumatised and full of anger. Pakistan is known among the mountaineering community. It was a brutal massacre. These people were killed for no reason,” said Manzoor Hussain, president of the Alpine Club of Pakistan.

Around 40 remaining climbers on Nanga Parbat have been evacuated to Gilgit with treks on the peak now deemed unsafe, he said.

Hussain said there would be no further expeditions this summer and that requests for winter climbs would be subject to a security review.

Horrifying moment a circus worker dances on the body of a dying elephant after it collapsed while bathing in a river

circus worker dancing on the body of a dying elephant1A shocking video has emerged of a circus worker dancing on the back of a dying elephant while it bathes in a river.

The film shows Madi – a 48-year-old Indian elephant – slowly drowning as the circus owner’s brother jumps around on her in a pair of swimming shorts as she sinks under the surface.

Horrified witnesses made the 40 minute video when Madi – from Germany’s Universal Circus Renz – was taken to a river to bath during a tour of Estonia.

As Madi – clearly frail and in distressed – stumbles onto her side into the water, the zoo owner’s brother Rene Renz leaps onto her back and begins clowning around for spectators.
Even when the stricken animal sinks dying under the surface of the water in Narva, Renz leaps from its back in a comic dive for more laughs.

Now the circus owner Daniel Renz and brother Rene are under investigation for alleged animal cruelty.

Chris Brown accused of assaulting woman in nightclub and rendering her in need of possible surgery

Deanna GinesChris BrownA woman has accused Chris Brown of assaulting her.

Deanna Gines alleges that the incident was so bad she now may need to undergo surgery.

The alleged assault occurred on Saturday night in the Heat Ultra Lounge in Anaheim, California, after the singer had earlier performed at the nearby Honda Center.

Gines claimed to TMZ that Brown pushed her to the ground when the bar was about to close.

The 24-year-old alleges that she fell hard on her knees and claims the push was deliberate.

Gines stated that she went to the hospital following the alleged incident and was told by doctors that she has torn ligaments in her right knee.

The website reports that Gines has been informed she may need surgery and is going to see another doctor this week.

Gines claimed to TMZ that she filed a police report and the according to the website a representative for the Anaheim Police Department has confirmed a report was filed by a female that evening.

Brown was famously charged with assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.

A representative for Brown did not immediately respond when contacted by Mail Online.

Justin Bieber ‘keeps a private jet waiting for EIGHT hours in Miami… as he searches for pet monkey’

bieber2It seems 19-year-old Justin Bieber isn’t the best at keeping things in order of late.

TMZ reports the singer kept a private jet waiting in Miami for eight hours on Friday while he ‘searched for his pet monkey’.

The teen singer apparently rented the jet to fly him from Miami to Burbank, and only just made it in time before the pilot left without him – monkey or no monkey, according to the website.

The site reported that the Baby singer was scheduled to depart on the private jet at 11am.

He phoned to say he was running late, then reportedly showed up at 3pm only to say that he wasn’t yet ready to leave because he still had to retrieve his monkey from West Palm Beach.

Apparently the pilot was planning to leave without Bieber because his duty time was about to run out, but at 5:10pm the teen star made it on board… but whether or not the monkey was with him was not known.

It remains unclear if this is the same monkey – ‘Mally’ – that was seized from Bieber in Germany and re-homed in a zoo in late May, or whether he somehow managed to pick up a new one.

Up to 1,000 feared dead in India floods, landslides

india foods4Indian authorities scrambled to rescue thousands of people trapped after floods and landslides ravaged the Himalayan region, leaving up to 1,000 feared dead.

The exact number of those killed will not be clear until the muddy waters are cleaned up and the bodies recovered, said Vijay Bahuguna, the chief minister of Uttarakhand state, which is the worst-hit.

“Certainly, the number of the dead is much higher than 550 … and it could be around 1,000 as figures coming in suggest,” he said Saturday.

Emergency operations include the military and all forms of transportation, including trains moving people for free.

About 70,000 have been evacuated since the floods hit this month.

Ancient Egyptian statue has started MOVING sparking fears it has been struck by a ‘curse of the Pharaohs’

Հին եգիպտական արձանը սկսել է շարժվել՝ կասկածներ առաջացնելով, որ այն գտնվում է փարավոնների անեծքի տակ (տեսանյութ)It sounds like the something from the script of a Hollywood action adventure.

But the ‘mystery of the moving mummy’  –  which has seen an Egyptian statue mysteriously start to spin round in a display case – has spooked museum bosses.

The 10-inch tall relic, an offering to the Egyptian God Osiris, was found in a mummy’s tomb and has been at the ManchesterMuseum for 80 years.

But in recent weeks, curators have been left scratching their heads after they kept finding it facing the wrong way. They now believe there could be a ‘spiritual explanation’ for the turning statue.

It is believed that there is a curse of the pharaohs which strikes anyone who dares to take relics from a pyramid tomb.

Experts decided to monitor the room on time-lapse video and were astonished to see it clearly show the statuette spinning 180 degrees – with nobody going near it.

Now scientists are trying to explain the phenomenon, with TV physicist Brian Cox among the experts being consulted.

Scientists who explored the Egyptian tombs in the 1920s were popularly believed to be struck by a ‘curse of the Pharaohs’.

Egyptologist Campbell Price, 29, said: ‘I noticed one day that it had turned around.

‘I thought it was strange because it is in a case and I am the only one who has a key.

‘I put it back but then the next day it had moved again.

Other experts have a more rational explanation – suggesting that the vibrations caused by the footsteps of passing visitors makes the statuette tu

Unidentified gunmen kill 10 foreign mountain climbers and their guide at a hotel in Pakistan

A high altitude porter ascends a steep slope of Nanga ParbatPolice say gunmen killed 11 people, 10 of them foreigners, after barging into a hotel where the victims were staying in northern Pakistan.

The group of tourists from Russia, the Ukraine, and China were staying in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region in order to climb  Nanga Parbat, one of the world’s highest mountains.

The gunmen have yet to be identified and their motives are currently unknown.

Local police chief Barkat Ali says the climbers from Russia, China and the Ukraine were killed before dawn Sunday as they set off to climb Nanga Parbat, a popular destination for trekkers, in the Gilgit-Baltistan area of Pakistan.

The gunmen are said to have stormed into the hotel where the tourists were staying, according to Sky News.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

A senior government official told reporters that a large number of security personnel have been sent to Gilgit-Baltistan in the wake of the shooting spree.

‘Since the area is very remote with no roads or transport, their bodies will have to be retrieved by helicopter,’ the official said, according to Sky News.

Streaker wearing nothing but a pair of red trainers runs down the Dolce & Gabbana catwalk at Milan fashion week

massy at Dolce&Gabbana fashion showThere were gasps at the Dolce & Gabbana catwalk show at Milan Fashion Week today when a streaker leapt onto the catwalk and ran up and down in full view of the city’s fashion royalty.

Stars including Barcelona striker Lionel Messi could only watch as the man, whose identity is not yet known, paraded himself up and down the runway with all his assets on show.

The designers had been showcasing creations from their Spring/Summer 2014 Men’s collection when the man invaded the spotlight and disrobed entirely but for a pair of red trainers.

He pulled a succession of bizarre, gurn-like expressions as he skipped back and forth along the catwalk attempting to avoid the venue’s security guards.

Even after he was tackled to his knees by a bouncer he lifted one arm in the air in triumph and continued to yell into the audience.

The slender, white man was eventually led out of the show by a team of security guards, but the unwanted interruption marks what Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana may hope will be the end of a bad week.

The fashion duo were earlier this week handed 20 months in prison each – prompting quips that black and white stries could be huge on the catwalks next season.
