Schumacher ‘to be moved out of intensive care and placed in rehab’ four months after skiing accident… but if he was going to wake up he would have by now, say doctors

The battle for Michael Schumacher’s coma recovery has apparently entered a new phase with him being moved out of intensive care into a rehabilitation ward.

If true, it means that Schumacher, 45, is out of danger from dying from his injuries – but the level of progress he has made remains questionable.

It comes four months after doctors announced they would begin the process of awaking him from the artificially induced coma he was placed in following a ski accident in the French Alps on December 19 last year.

However, experts say if he was going to wake up, he would have done so by now.

Medical sources always said that there would come a point when doctors would have to inform his wife Corinna, brother Ralf and father Rolf that there is nothing more they can do for him on the emergency station.

The seven-time world champion’s family and manager last spoke about Schumacher’s health condition in the middle of April, stating that the German ace has ‘moments of consciousness and awakening.’ Since then there have been no fresh updates, fuelling speculation that he will not make a full recovery.

Schumacher Has ‘Moments of Consciousness,’ Manager Says

Michael Schumacher is now showing “moments of consciousness and awakening,” more than three months after suffering serious head injuries in a skiing accident, the retired Formula One star’s manager said Friday.

Schumacher, 45, fell while skiing in France on Dec. 29 and hit the right side of his head on a rock, cracking his helmet. Doctors operated to remove blood clots from his brain, but some were left because they were too deeply embedded.

Schumacher’s condition stabilized after he was placed in a drug-induced coma. In late January, doctors at a hospital in the French city of Grenoble began the process of withdrawing sedatives to try to wake him up.

Schumacher’s manager added that she and Schumacher’s family “do not intend to disclose details. This is necessary to protect the privacy of Michael and his family, and to enable the medical team to work in full calmness.”

He has been in a medically induced coma for over a month, but former Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher’s sedation is being reduced to start the “waking up process,” his agent said Thursday.

Schumacher suffered severe head trauma in a skiing accident at the French Alps resort of Meribel on December 29.

The announcement marks a key change to Schumacher’s condition, which has been routinely described as “stable” by agent Sabine Kehm in recent weeks.

Kehm went on to repeat previous requests for the media to respect the privacy of Schumacher’s family.

The German has been inundated with support from around the world during his stay, with his former stable Mercedes running the message “Keep Fighting Michael” on its silver livery when they revealed their new car for testing on Monday.
