Prostitution: France Wants to Punish Clients

մարնավաճառ

France’s government is pushing one of Europe’s toughest laws against prostitution and sex trafficking, and other countries are watching closely. Advocates hope that a draft French law going to parliament Wednesday will help change long-held attitudes toward the world’s oldest profession — by punishing the customer and protecting the prostitute.

The bill, however, is facing resistance in a country with a libertine reputation and a Mediterranean macho streak, and has prompted petitions defending those who buy sex. Signatories include screen icon Catherine Deneuve —who played a prostitute in the cult film “Belle de Jour” — and crooner Charles Aznavour.

Prostitution is currently legal in France, but brothels, pimping and soliciting in public are illegal.

The proposed law would introduce a 1,500-euro ($2,000) fine —rising to 3,000-euro at the second offense— for the clients of prostitutes. They could also be forced to attend classes aimed at highlighting the harms of prostitution.

The proposed law —written by a group of lawmakers from both right and left and backed by the Socialist government— follows the example of Sweden, which passed similar legislation in 1999.

A report commissioned by the Swedish government showed that the number of people involved in street prostitution in Sweden’s three largest cities dropped from around 730 in 1999 to 300-430 a year in the 10 years after that. At the same time, street prostitution in neighboring Norway and Denmark increased.

Supporters of the French draft law argue that it could reduce sex trafficking and empower prostitutes.

And earlier this month, a petition emerged, signed by 60 celebrities, including Deneuve and Aznavour, saying: “Without supporting or promoting prostitution, we reject the penalization of those who prostitute themselves and those who buy their services, and we ask for a real debate without ideological prejudice.”

Desperate Greek citizens ‘are intentionally infecting themselves with HIV’ to qualify for state benefit which is set aside for addicts

հունաստան, ՄԻԱՎ, թմրամոլներ

Desperate Greek citizens are intentionally infecting themselves with the HIV, in a bid to qualify for benefits which are given to sufferers of the killer virus, a report has claimed.

A World Health Organization report has revealed what it calls a ‘significant rise’ in the number of sufferers between 2007 and 2009, when the European financial crisis brought the country’s economy to its knees.

The number of reported new infections then continued to soar, from 22 in 2010 to 245 in 2011, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

Shockingly, the research said around half of new cases could be self-inflicted by drug addicts who want to cash in on welfare handouts.

In Greece, HIV carriers are entitled to a state benefit of €700 (£590) per month as well as access to drug substitution programmes which can help battle the illness.

Despite the existence of a drug benefit being linked to rising cases, drug experts have urged governments to exclude drug-abuse treatment from austerity budget cuts.

Մեքսիկա,մասսայական գերեզմաններ

Mexican authorities have found 42 bodies buried in mass graves in western Mexico this month, the Attorney General’s Office said Monday.

Many of the bodies had bullet wounds and showed signs of torture, according to federal authorities at the crime scene.

The bodies have not yet been identified.

The 22 graves, in the town of La Barca in the state of Jalisco, were discovered as part of an investigation into the disappearance of two federal agents.

According to the attorney general, the federal officers were not among the bodies found in the mass graves. An investigation is ongoing.

Drug cartels, including the Knights Templar and Jalisco New Generation, operate in the region and are battling for control.

Mother gets call from ‘Satan’ and decides to ring him back

satan

When a mother got a missed call from ‘Satan’ she was so concerned she rang him back to see what he wanted.

Jenn Vest was in the middle of breastfeeding her son at her Colorado home when she received what turned out to be a rather disturbing missed call.

After checking her phone to see who had tried to contact her, she saw the number 1-666-666-666.

‘It really freaked me out because I was half asleep feeding my son and it woke me up,’ she told KUSA TV.

If the creepy missed call wasn’t enough, Vest then received 48 text messages with ‘Satan’ the only word included in them.

After this she was unable to sleep and spent the rest of the night asking for God’s help.

‘I stayed up the rest of the night praying and hoping nothing would happen,’ she added.

It later turned out the phone call and subsequent messages were most likely a well-orchestrated prank as Ms Vest had recently handed out lots of flyers with her number on when starting a new business.

The Indelible Imprint of JFK by Ban Ki-moon

պանգի մուն       One of my great personal regrets is not having better preserved the autograph I received from President Kennedy when I had the overwhelming good fortune to meet him as a nameless teenager from a dusty village in Korea.

I was in the United States as part of an eye-opening tour organized by the Red Cross for a group of young people from around the world. It was more than a visit to a foreign country – it was a pilgrimage to the land of possibility, a shining democracy that had helped to save my nation in its darkest hour.

President Kennedy’s signature was quickly dispersed among the many fingerprints of my friends who grabbed at the glossy White House Bulletin and passed it around with such eagerness that by the time it returned to me no trace of his writing remained.

But nothing could remove the imprint the American President made on my life. Meeting him was a turning point. His words that day in the South Lawn sparked my decision to become a diplomat and dedicate myself to public service.

As he looked out at our diverse group representing countries that were then on different sides of the Iron Curtain, President Kennedy reminded us that we could be friends even if our governments were not. And he said the words I chose to live by: “There are no national boundaries; there is only a question of whether we can extend a helping hand.”

As I grew older and progressed through my career in national diplomatic service, that idea came into sharper focus, and I resolved to contribute to the global public good. As Secretary-General of the United Nations, I try my best to serve the peoples of the world in whose name the Organization’s Charter was adopted.

President Kennedy had great faith in the United Nations. His last speech to the General Assembly just weeks before his death reads like a primer for addressing the problems that still plague us today. He stressed the indivisibility of human rights. He opposed wasteful military spending. He called for racial and religious tolerance. He praised United Nations peacekeeping. And he insisted that we embrace peace not only on paper, but in our hearts. These are all values I defend along with a corps of dedicated United Nations staff members around the world.

In my own encounters with the world’s young people, I try to deliver the message that JFK gave to me: Be a global citizen and love your country by serving the world.

Soon after I became Secretary-General, Senator Edward Kennedy came to visit.  He brought me a framed copy of the photograph of our group on the South Lawn along with President Kennedy’s speech that day. I was deeply touched by Sen. Kennedy’s understanding of how much I treasured my encounter with his brother.

Reflecting on President Kennedy’s tragic death a half century ago, I realize perhaps I should revise my regrets over losing his autograph. That signature had not simply faded off the paper into a void; it had been absorbed into the skin of my friends thanks to their enthusiasm. I hope to continue spreading the message of this man, who held fast to high ideals and placed such faith in the United Nations, to all people, especially the world’s youth.

Putin arrives in Italy to meet the Pope as Italian media claim he will make Berlusconi Russian ambassador to Vatican, giving him diplomatic immunity

վլադիմիր պուտին,սիլվիո բերլուսկոնիRussian president Vladimir Putin will meet the Pope today – amid claims he is planning to name scandal-mired Silvio Berlusconi as Russia’s ambassador to the Vatican.

Mr Putin will hold private talks with Pope Francis about the Syrian conflict, months after the Pope sent him an angry letter criticising the G20’s failure to provide more aid.

Now it has been claimed Mr Putin is set to grant Berlusconi diplomatic immunity – despite him being convicted of sex with an underage prostitute and facing another trial over bribery claims.

It would hand Berlusconi several privileges including a right to travel – something his numerous convictions have forced him to give up.

The former Italian premier and Putin, both highly controversial figures in world politics, are close friends and regularly defend each other against criticism.
In September the Pope wrote directly to Putin imploring him to co-operate with other international leaders to help the people of Syria.

Syria peace conference set for January 22, U.N. says

ՄԱԿ,Սիրիա, խաղաղության կոնֆերանս

After months of delays, a “Geneva II” conference meant to broker an end to the Syrian civil war has been scheduled to begin on January 22 in Geneva, Switzerland, the United Nations said Monday morning.

“At long last and for the first time, the Syrian government and opposition will meet at the negotiation table rather than the battlefield,” U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said during a news conference.

While he called the U.N.-brokered meeting a “mission of hope” and called on both sides to cease violence and release detainees in preparation for the talks, he did not say which parties will attend — a subject that helped push back the conference for months.

While he called the U.N.-brokered meeting a “mission of hope” and called on both sides to cease violence and release detainees in preparation for the talks, he did not say which parties will attend — a subject that helped push back the conference for months.

The conference would bring representatives from Syria’s government and elements of the opposition to negotiate an end to the fighting that has wracked Syria since March 2011.

Yet the opposition is hardly a single group; it consists of numerous factions that often oppose each other.

The conference had been held up in part because many branches of the Syrian opposition said they wouldn’t attend, or wouldn’t participate without preconditions.

Geneva II is a successor to Geneva I, a June 2012 meeting in which international parties laid out a peace plan for Syria that calls for a transitional governing body. It left open the question of whether al-Assad must leave power.

Family claim Guinness World Record for Christmas light display with 502,165 flickering bulbs (but some of the neighbours have stopped speaking to them)

Christmas lightsAn Australian family who put more than half a million Christmas lights on their house have claimed a world record – for the second time.

Father-of-three David Richards from Canberra first won the title in 2011 with 331,038 lights, but was beaten by a family in New York who put up 346,283.

His family vowed to take regain the title this Christmas – so installed more than 31 miles of wire with 502,165 lights, glowing reindeer and loud music around their suburban home, to the irritation of some neighbours.

Guinness World Records today confirmed the family’s charity feat has officially the most Christmas lights on a residential property.

The twinkling bulbs will cost about £1,400 to run for a month – but the sum has been donated by a local power company.

The stunt is open to the public, and hundreds of people have already visited and posted videos on Youtube. It will raise funds for children’s charities including to fight Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Up to 70,000 people visited the light show when he last put it on in 2011 and it raised £44,000 for charity. This year Mr Richards wants to raise £56,000.

The lights took a month to put up but Mr Richards did not have to count them all himself – instead delivery records and invoices were used to certify the total.

I love you THIS much! Angelina Jolie ‘spends $12.2 million on secluded heart-shaped island’ for Brad Pitt’s 50th birthday

Their love for one another has never been in doubt, but Angelina Jolie has apparently reinforced the depth of her feelings for Brad Pitt by buying him his very own heart shaped island.

The actress has reportedly paid £12.2 million for secluded Petra as Brad prepares to celebrate his 50th birthday on December 18.

Angelina is understood to have snapped up the island, located some 50-miles away from New York City, after discovering its two sprawling properties were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Brad’s favourite architect.

A source told The Mirror: ‘As soon as Angelina heard the island was on the market she arranged a viewing. She was really impressed. The house is perfect for romantic getaways or as a family retreat.
‘It’s very private.  And Angelina knows the fact the island is in the shape of a heart will mean so much to him.’

Petra’s original cottage was erected in 1950, while its larger property was built from one of Wright’s blueprints in 2008 – 48-years after his death.

The finer details of its intricate design will not be lost on architecture fan Brad, who once admitted that Frank Lloyd Wright ‘changed his life.’

Angelina has previously treated him to a tour of the late architect’s home, Fallingwater, in 2006.

MESSAGE ON THE INTERNATIONAL DAY TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Violence against women and girls directly affects individuals while harming our common humanity. In response to this global challenge, I launched my UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign in 2008. Since then, partners around the world have joined our drive to protect the human rights of women and girls to live free from violence. I welcome the chorus of voices calling for an end to the violence that affects an estimated one in three women in her lifetime. I applaud leaders who are helping to enact and enforce laws and change mindsets. And I pay tribute to all those heroes around the world who help victims to heal and to become agents of change. Last month, on United Nations Day, I had the privilege of meeting again with one such hero: Dr. Denis Mukwege, the founder of the Panzi hospital in the Democratic Republic of the Congo where women go after experiencing terrible atrocities. Dr. Mukwege has said, “Many times we are reduced to tears. Everything is so damaged. But we get to work. We operate. We fix what we can, and that is a lot.” He is inspired by the courage of the women he treats, including the many who go on to help others. Although Dr. Mukwege is dealing with violence against women in the context of armed conflict, his spirit to confront and fix this problem should apply to all of our efforts to help women facing violence in homes, schools and other civilian settings throughout the world, in every country, every society. Traditionally, this Day marks the start of 16 days of activism. From November 25th until December 10th – Human Rights Day – we make a special effort to organize and combat violence against women, an egregious human rights violation. This year, we are raising awareness by wearing the colour orange to symbolize our commitment to this cause. One way to make a difference is to support the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women, which helps respond to human rights violations and needs from physical safety to economic security. While the demand for its grants has more than doubled in recent years, the amount it has been able to distribute has diminished by 60 per cent. I appeal to all partners to help meet this vast unmet demand for resources to further advance efforts to prevent and end violence against women and girls. This International Day to End Violence against Women is an opportunity for all people to recommit to preventing and halting all forms of violence against women and girls.

Chris Brown’s Mother Blames Son’s Bad Behavior on His Friends

Քրիս Բրաուն

Chris Brown was recently kicked out of a California rehab facility after throwing a rock at his mother’s car. The singer’s mother, Joyce Hawkins’, apparently holds no grudge against her son as she still calls him “an angel” when addressing the matter on Twitter.
Sources close to the family told TMZ that she even believed that her son’s bad behavior was caused by his bad friends.
According to Hawkins, Brown’s friends only hang out with him for his money and the access to expensive things. She claimed his friends were the ones who got him hooked on marijuana.

Brown checked into rehab for anger management treatment on October 29, just a few days after he was busted in Washington, D.C., after being accused of punching a man who tried getting a picture with him. Brown was due to appear in a Washington, D.C., court on November 25, but a judge has allowed him to skip it so he can continue treating his anger management in rehab.

Female Chairman Mao impersonator says she is adored by fans… but it has put her husband off having sex with her

China’s first female Chairman Mao impersonator may be a hit with her fans but not with her husband who is refusing to have sex with her because he is put off by her likeness to the late communist leader. Chen Yan, 51, gave up her job as a shopkeeper and is now being paid a fortune by department stores and property developers to dress up as Mao and pose for pictures. But her whirlwind success had taken its toll on her marriage to the point her husband is now said to be ‘disgusted’ by her. She told the Global People magazine that he could no longer stand the feeling that ‘he is sleeping with [the] Chairman and that their sex life had been destroyed.’ Mrs Chen, from Mianyang in Sichuan province, was mocked as a child for having an uncanny resemblance to Mao. She decided to begin a career as an impersonator after appearing on a television talent show where ordinary people impersonate celebrities. Although she didn’t win, she returned home to discover she had become something of a local celebrity. She decided to throw herself into a new career as an impersonator and set about studying Mao’s mannerisms and habits even down to how he held his chopsticks. Her make up, which include’s a Mao-style mole on the chin and his signature hairstyle takes hours to prepare at a cost of £200 a time. According to Zhang Bingjian, an artist and filmmaker who made a documentary about Mao impersonators, Mr and Mrs Chen are now fighting to rescue their marriage.

Egypt Tells Turkish Ambassador to Leave

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry says the Turkish ambassador to Cairo has been considered persona non grata and will be ordered to leave the country because of Turkey’s continued “interference” in Egyptian internal affairs. A statement issued by the ministry’s spokesman Saturday said the government has decided to lower diplomatic representation to the level of charge d’affaires. It said Egypt has already transferred its own ambassador to Turkey to Cairo. Egypt has denounced Turkish criticism of the Egyptian military’s overthrow of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.

The 39-year-old former Victoria Beckham and her husband David are donating thousands of pounds worth of designer clothes to their local charity shop to raise cash for victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

The couple have handed over boxes full of their old clothes and shoes to a British Red Cross shop in Chelsea, west London, to help fund the charity’s work in the Philippines.
Mrs Beckham yesterday tweeted a picture of the enormous shoe collection, along with a shot of her wearing jeans, a grey top and white trainers sitting in a cardboard box surrounded by other boxes.

The cast-offs, which are due to go on sale Friday at 11am, includes hundreds of pairs of Victoria’s shoes, which are UK sizes four and five,  and many of David’s signature baseball caps.

Suits designed by the Beckhams’ close pals Dolce and Gabbana will also go on sale alongside clothes and shoes from designers Jimmy Choo, and Roberto Cavalli.

Life as a lion whisperer: Breathtaking video footage shows the fierce predators pouncing, being stroked and chasing after cars

առյուծ

They’re fierce predators that rip flesh from bones using razor sharp teeth and strangle their prey, yet new video footage shows lions being as playful as household cats.

Captured by lion whisperer and zoologist Kevin Richardson, 39, in Pretoria, South Africa, the footage was filmed using GoPro camera fitted to his back.

Richardson even managed to attach the camera to the back of a lioness to give a unique viewpoint of the large cats’ prowl.

կևին ռիչարդսոն,առյուծ

In an exclusive interview, Richardson told MailOnline he’s been working with the big cats for 16 years.

‘I’ve always been passionate about animals of all shapes and sizes. I got the opportunity to work with two male lion cubs 16 years back and was bitten by the bug.

The lions caught on camera are 10 years old, according to Richardson. As he gets out of the car at the start of the video, Richardson shouts ‘Maggie’ and one of lions bounds towards him before leaping into his arms.

‘If you give them a chin scratch they’re very happy, content cats. As I lie beside them I just think they’re beautiful’, explained Richardson.

‘There are two vital messages that need to be conveyed to the greater mass of people out there’, said Richardson.

‘The first is that lions are under tremendous threat in the wild and their numbers are not sustainable; numbers have dropped from around 300,000 to around between 15 and 25,000 in less than 70 years.

‘The second message is the sick and sinister exploitation of captive bred lions for the ‘cub petting’ industry and the ‘canned’ hunting industry, whereby lions are seen as just a commodity to enrich certain businesses. ‘

According to Richardson, cubs are farmed to be taken away from their parents and hand raised to tame them, making it possible for people to interact with them. To tackle these issues, he has set up The Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary.

Pipeline explosion kills 22 in China, report says

Չինաստան,պայթյուն

An oil pipeline exploded Friday in eastern China, killing at least 22 people, the state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

Authorities were still trying to determine the number of those injured, after the pipeline caught fire near the port city of Qingdao, about 300 miles north of Shanghai.

The oil line sprung a leak in the pre-dawn hours, Xinhua said, citing the city government. The oil flow was cut off, and workers went out to repair the breach. The explosion occurred in the late morning.

The pipeline, which is 176 kilometers (109 miles) long, belongs to Chinese petroleum giant Sinopec and connects the oil port to chemical plants further inland.

Maritime authorities are checking the coastline for possible oil leaks, Xinhua said. None have been reported so far.

These smugglers won’t be feeling quite so flush: Stash of gold bars worth £700,000 found in airplane toilet

կալկաթա, ոսկե սալիկներ

Cleaners working on an aircraft in eastern India have found 24 gold bars worth more than £620,000 hidden in a toilet compartment – the latest in a series of smuggling attempts uncovered at the country’s airports.

The cleaners had boarded the Jet Airways plane at Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) airport on Tuesday after it had travelled from the eastern city of Patna.

It had earlier been flying on international routes that included the Middle East.

Smugglers have been using a loophole in India’s flight schedules to attempt getting gold into the country without having to declare it to customs officials.

The gold is secretly stashed in an aircraft toilet at its international point of departure, where it remains when the plane lands at an Indian city.

Because that particular aircraft is then used to continue on as a domestic flight, a new passenger picks up the gold on the domestic leg and leaves the plane when it lands, knowing that there will be no customs checks.

India, which rivals China as the world’s biggest gold consumer, has seen a rise in smuggling after import duties were increased three times this year to try to dampen demand for the precious metal.

An official says about 25,000 people have been evacuated from coastal villages in southern India as a strong cyclone approaches from the Bay of Bengal.

Andhra Pradesh state Revenue Minister Raghvira Reddy says the cyclone is expected to hit four districts of the state on Friday with wind speeds of up to 110 kilometers per hour (68 miles per hour).

The India Meteorological Department said Thursday a storm surge of about up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) and heavy rainfall were expected to flood low-lying areas.
