Police Found Explosive at Palestinian Embassy

Czech investigators have discovered explosives at the Palestinian embassy complex in Prague where a possibly booby-trapped safe killed the ambassador on Jan. 1, police said Thursday.

Police discovered 12 illegal weapons following the explosion at the embassy that killed Ambassador Jamal al-Jamal.

It remains unclear what caused the safe to explode but the ambassador’s death is being investigated as a case of negligence. Al-Jamal had only started his posting in October.

Police spokesman Tomas Hulan said they have sent the explosives for testing at Prague’s Institute of Criminology.

Police said Thursday they received a letter from the Palestinian authorities saying the weapons were given to them as gifts by the officials of the former communist Czechoslovakia. Czechoslovakia was part of the Soviet bloc that had warm ties with the Palestinian Liberation Organization.

According to police, the Palestinians said the weapons were never used and always kept in a safe.

Father spends six nights in -30C weather to build his own rainbow ICE FORT from hundreds of frozen plastic shoeboxes

օնտարիօ

As temperatures dropped to -30 degree Celsius, residents of Ontario could be forgiven for rejecting the great outdoors in favour of keeping warm inside.

But one father refused to be deterred by the bitter temperatures and found an ingenious way to pass the long winter hours of sub-zero temperatures by creating a colorful ice fort in his backyard.

Chris Marchand filled hundreds of eight-litre plastic shoeboxes with water and food colouring – he filled about 30 each day.

He stored them in his driveway for a month until he had created enough to create his vision.

Mr Marchand then set about building the boundary of a 25′ x 25′ fort – it took him six nights working in -30 degree Celsius temperatures to erect the wall.

When the work was complete he invited over his friends and family to enjoy a night in his creation, as he sat back and admired his vision as king of his castle.

Over one million Syrian refugees have fled to Lebanon, but not all are eligible for aid.

Refugees who are not registered with the United Nations have been forced to take desperate measures to survive.

Fourteen-year-old Hanifa has agreed to marry a 44-year-old Lebanese landlord. Her family can not afford to pay their monthly rent, so the owner of the house has demanded Hanifa become his second wife.

Lebanon hosts the largest number of refugees from Syria and aid agencies are calling the Syrian refugee crisis a humanitarian tragedy.

Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr reports from northeastern Lebanon.

Thieves tried to steal the ashes of SIGMUND FREUD smashing the urn in botched raid on crematorium

Thieves have tried to steal the ashes of Sigmund Freud and his wife.

They broke an ancient Greek urn that contained the couple’s remains after breaking into a cemetery in Golders Green, north London.

The ‘irreplaceable’ urn, which was a gift to the founding father of psychoanalysis from Princess Marie Bonaparte, the great-grandniece of Napoleon, was ‘severely damaged’. The would-be thieves left empty-handed.

The urn was placed in the crematorium following Freud’s death in Hampstead in September 1939.

The ashes of his wife, Martha, were added to the urn when she died in 1951, aged 90.

A spokesman for the crematorium said the urn, which was ‘severely damaged’, has since been moved to a secure location and that security was now under review.

The crematorium in Hoop Lane has been the scene for the funerals of many British celebrities, including authors Bram Stoker, Enid Blyton and more recently Amy Winehouse and Peter Sellers.

Six workers were killed in a fire in an underground coal tunnel in northern Vietnam, an official said Thursday.

One worker escaped with burns after the fire erupted Wednesday night, and the bodies of six others who died of suffocation were pulled out Thursday morning, said Duong Quang Lai, director of the Uong Bi Coal Co. in Quang Ninh province.

Authorities on Thursday were still trying to put out the fire at the tunnel, which is between 30-105 meters (98-345 feet) deep, he said.

An investigation is underway.

The province is Vietnam’s main coal-mining region. Dozens of workers have been killed in the past decade in mining accidents there.
