Muslim leaders issue a fatwa against anyone living on MARS as there is ‘no righteous reason’ to be there

A Fatwa has been issued against living on Mars by clerics who say that trying to live there would be un-Islamic.

The fatwa – or ruling – was issued by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowment (GAIAE) in the UAE after the Mars One organisation announced that it would try and establish a permanent human settlement on Mars.

The committee argued that trying to dwell on the planet would be so hazardous as to be suicidal and killing oneself is not permitted by Islam.

The multi-billion pound Mars One mission hopes to establish a human colony on Mars in 2025.
Over 200,000 people, including 500 Saudis and Arabs, have applied to take part in the missions so far.

In December Mars One short-listed 1,058 people to take part in trials for the missions.

Mars lies on average 141.6million miles from the Sun and has an average temperature of -85F (-65C). Its atmosphere is desperately thin – one per cent of Earth’s pressure – and is 95 per cent carbon dioxide.

India is making final preparations to send a spacecraft to Mars tomorrow.

The aim is to test India’s space technology to see if it has the technological ability to explore the solar system.

If successful, India will become only the fourth country or group to reach the red planet after Russia, U.S. and Europe.

More than half the world’s attempts to reach Mars – 23 out of 40 missions – have failed, including missions by Japan in 1999 and China in 2011.

Mangalyaan, which means ‘Mars craft’ is scheduled to blast off from the Indian space center on the southeastern island of Shriharikota – the start of a 300-day, 780 million-kilometer (485 million-mile) journey to orbit Mars and survey its geology and atmosphere.

The 1,350-kilogram orbiter is expected to reach its designated orbit September 24 2014.

Mangalyaan is expected to have at least six months to investigate the planet’s landscape and atmosphere.

Would you sign up to die on MARS? 200,000 people around the the world apply for a one-way ticket to the red planet

The colony as it is expected to look in 2015A one-way ticket to a barren, hostile landscape, where temperatures can drop as low as -150°C, might not sound like everyone’s dream destination.

But as of the application deadline a week ago, more than 200,000 people from 140 different countries have applied to be among the first colonists on Mars.

The applicants have agreed to stay on the red planet for the rest of their lives – and be filmed for a reality TV programme, said the company behind the mission, Mars One.

They added that landing systems will be tested eight times before they are used to transport humans – a move that Mars One said will make the trips ‘much safer than moon missions’.

From the 200,000 applications, between 24 and 40 candidates will be selected to participate in a seven-year training program that would start in 2015.

The group said it aims to have a human settlement on Mars within a decade.

But Dr Veronica Bray of the University of Arizona has expressed concerns about the project.
