Mutant super rats IMMUNE to poison invade British homes to escape flooded sewers and underground burrows

առնետ

Flood ravaged homes across England have a new threat to contend with: a plague of mutant ‘super’ rats.

Hordes of the brown rats have escaped flooded drains across the south of England after storms unleashed torrential downpours on vast swathes of the country.

The rats are resistant to normal poisons and can transmit life-threatening diseases to humans and farm animals.

A study by University of Reading’s Rodenticide Resistance Action Group involving testing the tails of hundreds of rats killed in Berkshire and Oxfordshire, found that many of the rodents were resistant to common forms of poison used by local authorities and professional pest controllers, farmers and gamekeepers.

Other EU countries allow the use of potent poisons, brodifacoum and flocoumafen outside. But in the UK fears over the effect the poisons will have on other wildlife, including owls who feed on rats, has prompted widespread studies by experts.

Canadian Turks Should Condemn, Not Condone, Genocide Denial

Հարութ Սասունյան

By Harut Sassounian

Publisher, The California Courier

Canadian Turks launched a petition last month seeking the removal of all references to the Armenian Genocide from the 11th grade curriculum of Toronto high schools.

This petition is a part of Turkish denialists’ long-standing efforts to reverse the Toronto District School Board’s (TDSB) 2008 decision to educate students about the Armenian, Jewish, and Rwandan genocides. TDSB’s action follows the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Canadian Senate in 2002 and the House of Commons in 2004. In addition, since 2006, successive Canadian Prime Ministers have issued official annual statements acknowledging the Armenian Genocide, despite intensive political pressure and economic blackmail by the Turkish government.

Back in 2008, a similar Turkish petition failed to sway TDSB to amend the genocide curriculum, after gathering over 11,000 signatures, mostly from Turkey. Indeed, the Ankara government and its Turkish proxies in Toronto have done everything possible during the past seven years to undermine this curriculum.

Below are the baseless claims made by the Turkish petition against TDSB’s genocide curriculum, followed by my rebuttal:

— Turkish Petition: “As the Turkish/Turkic speaking parents of students attending the Toronto District School Board, we are deeply concerned about the negative impact of the current curriculum module on ‘Armenian Genocide’ and the learning resources adopted by the Board since 2008.”

My response: There has been NO violence or intimidation against a single Turkish student in Toronto schools even though the genocide curriculum has been taught there for several years. The reason is that Armenians do not hold today’s Turks responsible for the crimes committed by the Government of Ottoman Turkey almost 100 years ago, except those who associate themselves with these crimes by their denial. The Republic of Turkey, on the other hand, as successor to the Ottoman Empire, is responsible for the continuing consequences of the Armenian Genocide. Denying the facts of the Genocide has a far more serious negative psychological impact on Armenians than its inclusion in the curriculum on Turks. Furthermore, the truth cannot be concealed in order not to offend the sensibilities of those who wish to cover up historical facts. Would anyone advocate erasing all references to the Jewish Holocaust from history books not to offend present-day Germans?

— Turkish Petition: “The textbook on the Genocide of the Armenians and other readers, such as Barbara Coloroso’s Extraordinary Evil, unremittingly discredits one community’s narrative over the other; and, adversely affects the students of TDSB with Turkish and Turkic heritages.”

My response: There cannot be two narratives or two versions of the proven facts of the Armenian Genocide. There can only be one version — the truth!

— Turkish Petition: “We firmly believe that the values of mutual respect, understanding and peaceful coexistence can be achieved through an honest and open dialogue on history. Moreover, fair and unprejudiced learning should be based on historical facts and not solely on the narratives of select communities while ignoring others. It should also be noted that there are no court decisions on any of these historical claims and the opinions of historians differ regarding the details and the definitions of these events.”

My response: ‘Mutual respect, understanding and peaceful coexistence’ cannot be achieved through distortions and lies. Only after acknowledging the truth and making appropriate amends, Canadian Turks can talk about such lofty ideals. Furthermore, contrary to the Turkish claims, there are several court verdicts on the Armenian Genocide, starting with the Turkish Military Tribunals of 1919, and judgments by Argentinean, Swiss, and U.S. courts. Significantly, the UN Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities adopted in 1985 a report acknowledging the Armenian Genocide. The ultimate arbiter of any genocide is the United Nations, since the Genocide Convention is a UN document.

To sum up, this latest Turkish petition is a total failure since its initiator, the Federation of Canadian Turkish Associations, has so far collected less than 2,000 signatures out of a claimed membership of 200,000 in Canada. Interestingly, most of the signatories are not from Canada, but Turkey where the petition has been widely circulated.

A more worthwhile initiative for Canadian Turks would be to start a petition urging the Turkish government to acknowledge the Armenian Genocide and make proper restitution to the descendants of this heinous crime on the occasion of the Genocide’s Centennial.

Bulgarians Celebrate Epiphany With an Icy Dip

Bulgaria Orthodox Epiphany

Thousands of young men are plunging into icy rivers and lakes across Bulgaria to retrieve crucifixes cast by priests in an old ritual marking the feast of Epiphany.

By tradition, a crucifix is cast into the waters of a lake or river, and it is believed that the person who retrieves it will be freed from evil spirits and will be healthy through the year.

The celebration of Epiphany, or the Apparition of Christ, as Bulgarians call it, began on Monday in Sofia with a water blessing ceremony.

The head of Bulgaria’s Orthodox Church, Patriarch Neofit, said a prayer for the prosperity of the people and blessed the colors of representative army units — a tradition abandoned in 1946 and re-established in 1992.

President in Moscow participated at the sitting of the Eurasian Economic Supreme Council held in the extended format

Եվրասիական տնտեսական բարձրագույն խորհրդի ընդլայնված կազմով նիստ

President Serzh Sargsyan, who is in the Russian Federation on a working visit, on December 24 in Moscow participated at the Eurasian Economic Supreme Council held in the extended format which was conducted with the participation of the Presidents of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan and the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

The Eurasian Economic Supreme Council at the level of state leaders along with other issues adopted a plan of action (“road map”) for the Republic of Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union and Common Economic Area of the Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan and Russian Federation. The members of the Council adopted a decision to approve the plan of action (“road map”). The governments of the Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan and Russian Federation and Eurasian economic commission were tasked together with the government of the Republic of Armenia to work towards the implementation of the steps envisaged by the plan of action. The Eurasian economic commission was also directed to carry out the monitoring of the implementation of the steps envisaged by the plan and to inform the Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan and Russian Federation on the results of the monitoring.

According to the mentioned above decision, the Eurasian economic commission will report on the works for the implementation of the steps envisaged by the plan of action to the next meeting of the Eurasian Economic Supreme Council held at the level of the heads of state.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Presidents of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia signed a Declaration on the plan of action (“road map”) of the Republic of Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union and Common Economic Area of the Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan and Russian Federation. In order to deepen integration processes between Armenia and Customs Union and Common Economic Area member states, as well as acknowledging the necessity to further develop mutually beneficial economic cooperation between the Republic of Armenia, Customs Union and Common Economic Area member states, supporting the intent of the Republic of Armenia to become a full member of the Common Economic Area, the four Presidents who signed the document declared that the plan of action (“road map”) was adopted and spoke in favor of implementation of the steps envisaged by the “road map” aimed at Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian integration project.

China Formalizes Easing of One-Child Policy

china-one-childChina on Saturday formally allowed couples to have a second child if one parent is an only child, the first major easing of the 3-decade-old restrictive birth policy.

Demographers and policy makers have estimated the easing would benefit some 15 million to 20 million Chinese parents — mostly in cities — and result in 1 million to 2 million extra births per year in the first few years, on top of the 16 million babies born annually in China. They say the easing is so incremental that the extra births are not expected to strain resources such as the health care and education.

China has credited the restrictive policy with managing its population growth and improving the economy, but critics say it is a violation of human rights.

China is the world’s most populous country with 1.35 billion people.

The bride wore NOTHING: Nudist activists arrested as they marry in San Francisco with – surprise surprise – no clothes on

Սան Ֆրանցիսկո, մերկ ամուսնություն

A bride and groom have been arrested as they tied the knot after stripping naked in the street to campaign against San Francisco’s ban on public nudity.

Police swooped on ex-stripper turned activist Gypsy Taub, 44, and groom Jamyz Smith, 20, within a few minutes of them exchanging vows.

According to SFGate.com, she told the gathered congregation: ‘This is a protest against the nudity ban as much as it is a wedding.’

nude wedding1

The couple had derobed outside San Francisco City Hall after a yearlong campaign to highlight what they believe is a draconian restriction on their ability to be naked in public.

Officers from the local police department wrapped the newly wed couple into blanks and bundled them into separate vans as they shared a dance on the pavement during the service yesterday.

According to a law enacted by the Board of Supervisors in 2012 bans public nudity on streets, sidewalks and transit stations and vehicles.

It makes exceptions for young children and participants in parades and fairs that have received permits.

Taub was later issued a citation and released provided that she put the gown back on.

“It is very difficult for a Diaspora Armenian to become adapted to the local life because in our imaginations Armenia is different; a more idyllic place, but the reality is starker”.

418168_10151981011647814_595704366_nHarut Lakhoyan moved to Armenia before the crisis in Syria began. In 2001, he was accepted to study at the Department of Programming at the State Architectural University of Yerevan. After finishing his studies, he decided to stay in Armenia. Like many locals, he had difficulties finding a job in this profession, so he started to work in a completely different field while adjusting to life in Armenia.

“It is very difficult for a Diaspora Armenian to become adapted to the local life because in our imaginations Armenia is different; a more idyllic place, but the reality is starker,” he shares.

Harut’s parents were not pleased with his decision to stay in Armenia. They would have preferred for him to return to Aleppo where he could find a good job and have an easier life. “For me, it would be easier to live in almost any foreign country other than Armenia. Armenia is the most difficult option, but the most preferable to me, as well”, he says.

The so-called well-off life of Syria was not for Harut because he aspired for more than Syria could offer. “In terms of culture, Syria, my birthplace, was on a lower and limited level. Having lived in Armenia for five years, the contrasts between Yerevan-Aleppo have become more obvious to me,” he mentions.

“Despite this, the human relationships are on a higher level in Aleppo, than in Yerevan. Even Arab people were more likely to reach out and be helpful”, he adds.

Despite many disappointments in Armenia, Harut has also met many good people and these interactions and friendships make him see Armenia in a positive way too.

In 2006, Harut graduated university and because he couldn’t find a job in his profession, he began to work as a real estate agent. When, in 2006, the inflow of Armenians started as a result of the Syrian crisis, he observed many controversial phenomena in Armenia. He discovered that many people took the opportunity to take advantage in the field of real estate, directly harming Syrian Armenians. In the meantime, there were people who lived abroad, but provided their apartments in Yerevan for the repatriates.

Harut has been married for over a year to a local Armenian. They rent an apartment because he finds that buying an apartment is difficult not only for him, but also for many local young people, especially those who don’t receive state assistance or an inheritance from their parents.

Despite the difficulties, currently Harut is developing a serious business with two partners. As a result of long negotiations, last year they became the exclusive representatives of the famous Swiss company Swissbacks not only in Armenia, but also in 20 countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Iran and others.

The company offers innovative works of jewelry, like new locks for earrings, invented by the French jeweler Sebastian Barier. It is a one piece flexible lock which easily clips the earring onto the ear. Swissbacks was established in 2006 and, since then, there have been many attempts to create this type of locks. The first model didn’t succeed, because it would break after clipping several times. The current model of locks can be used around 15,000 times, but before reaching this result, 60,000 pair of earrings were broken. Today the locks have such an advanced mechanism that even Chinese companies cannot copy it. The only company that could develop it is the world-known Swiss company Rollex.

On the basis of these locks the Armenian jeweler also developed 70 models of earrings, which will be displayed and sold at the “Dalma Garden Mall” soon.

Being an innovation, the locks of Swissbacks are more expensive than the gold of the earrings. The advantage of the locks is not only how it looks, but also the usability. Firstly, it is attached to the earring, so its loss is less likely. Also, they don’t hurt the ear, one can even wear them when sleeping, without any discomfort.

Harut hopes that his business will succeed, because it is innovative and there are no competitors in the field. He and his partners do everything according to the law. Despite this, he thinks that there are problems with legislative regulations in Armeia. “If we want to become a developed country, then we should do it gradually rather than by bringing in a model and trying to apply it directly. It’s the same as putting a Ferrari engine on an old Soviet car. That car will not run”, he says.

He finds that in terms of business and entrepreneurship Armenia has a sad picture. Instead of developing the laws to support a business environment, they hinder the development.

Nonetheless, he loves Armenia and emphasizes this. “I cannot imagine my life outside of Armenia. Maybe I have a lot of patience to continue living here after many disappointments or I am not yet completely disappointed. Besides, I have overcome the fear that every repatriate experiences when moving to Armenia – the fear of being deceived. I have been deceived many times, I have lost many things and I have overcome that stage”, he laughs.

Harut is among more than 500 repatriates who are registered at the Repat Armenia Foundation. People who, by their own example, call to the Armenians living abroad to repatriate.

Some of them are nice… but some of them are naughty: Thousands of people dressed as Father Christmas run amok across the world

Santa-Con2

Police arrested three people in central London after thousands of revellers dressed as Father Christmas ran amok.

The world-wide internet flash-mob gathering SantaCon, in which strangers agree to meet dressed as Father Christmas before hitting the streets for some festive fun, has been criticised in the past for some revellers getting a little carried away and heavy drinking.

Meanwhile, some revellers in New York also got a little carried away –  with six Santas and one  elf – brawling on the streets.

In footage captured by a resident of a nearby apartment, the Santas slide across the snowy, slushy streets, throwing punches at one another.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) stationed 80 ‘helper elves’ along the course of the event.

A spokesman said there were no arrests associated with this year’s SantaCon.

Elsewhere the festive party also invaded the streets of San Francisco – where the event originally started in the early ninties.

Meanwhile, hundreds of party goers took to the street of Vancouver, Canada, on Saturday.

SantaCon was originally called Santarchy and first took place in San Francisco in 1994.

It now spans events in more than 300 cities and 44 countries worldwide.

Santas taking part are encouraged to sing, hand out presents even have strangers sit on their lap.

Meanwhile in Bridgend… Over 1,300 turn out to beat Elf record.

A new record has been set for the largest gathering of elves in Bridgend, South Wales.

They succeeded in breaking the previous record of 1,200 elves set this time last year with a total of 1,312 participants.

Bridgend took the record from New York two years ago and has remained champion ever since.

Cher Says Thanksgiving Celebrates ‘a Great Crime’

Cher doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving. In fact, the 67-year-old singer/songwriter blasts the holiday tradition on Twitter, “I DON’T! 4 me & my Family,it’s a day,When every1 is free 4Diner & a movie,Not 2 celebrate the beginning of a GREAT Crime.”
When one of her followers asked her to elaborate what she meant with the “crime,” the mother of two quickly explained, “Stealing Land, from a ppl,Who believed,Owning LAND Was LIke Owning SKY! We gave them Blankets laced w/Smallpox.”

Cher whose real name is Cherilyn Sarkisian has Cherokee ancestry from her mother’s side. She apparently believes Thanksgiving celebrates the day the settlers stole from Native Americans who had no concept of property and infected them with smallpox.

Despite her opposition to the holiday, Cher wished her friends a happy day on November 28. “2 My Crew, I Hope Tomm.is a Glorious day 4 ALL OF U. Remember..A Kind Word,Gesture,Or Compliment, can make ANY1’S DAY! THANX4BeingThere4Me,” so she wrote.

Commuters PUSH train off a suicidal woman who had jumped in front of it on Japanese subway

Ճապոնիա,գնացք

A woman trapped under a train was freed when commuters worked together to push it backwards.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon on the JR Yamanote Line at Shibuya Station in Tokyo, Japan.

The woman, reportedly in her 60s, was heard crying out for help from beneath the train and she lay between the rails of the track.

Reports in Japan suggested the elderly woman had attempted to kill herself by jumping in front of the oncoming train.

Then, following an announcement over the station’s public address system informing commuters that a woman was trapped beneath the train and asking for their help, the crowd intervened.

Dozens of people managed to push the carriage back far enough for station staff to be able to help her.

The woman was freed at taken to hospital for treatment.

Reports suggest that the accident, which occurred just before the evening rush hour, affected more than 26,000 commuters along the line.

In July earlier this year, Japanese commuters helped another stranger in need.
On July 22, around forty passengers at the JR Minami-Urawa station, just outside Tokyo, helped push a 32-ton train carriage to free a woman trapped in the platform gap during rush hour on a Monday.

A Proud Moment for Armenians: Courthouse Named after Gov. Deukmejian

Two prominent Armenian-Americans were recently honored with exceptional accolades, making Armenians proud of their accomplishments.

In July, the US Navy announced that a future guided-missile destroyer will bear the name of Paul Ignatius (Iknadosian), the highest ranking Armenian-American official in the Federal Government. He served for eight years in the presidential administrations of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson as Assistant Secretary of the Army, Undersecretary of the Army, Assistant Secretary of Defense, and finally in 1967, Secretary of the Navy.

Last week, a new superior court building in Long Beach, California, was named after Governor George Deukmejian. The official dedication ceremony of the $339 million court complex took place on November 21.

Gov. Deukmejian served the State of California with distinction for 28 years. After narrowly winning his first election as governor in 1982, he was reelected in a landslide in 1986. Earlier, he had served for four years as Attorney General (1979-83), twelve years as State Senator (1967-1979) and Senate Majority Leader (1969), and four years as Assemblyman (1963-67). In 1988, then Vice President and presidential candidate George H.W. Bush considered Gov. Deukmejian as a possible vice presidential running mate. However, Deukmejian asked that his name be withdrawn from consideration in order not to leave California in the hands of a Democratic Lieutenant Governor. Had he not declined and had been picked for the Republican ticket, Deukmejian would have been elected Vice President along with Pres. Bush later that year. Subsequently, he could have run for President, and if successful, become the first US President of Armenian descent!

To honor the governor, over 500 government officials, former colleagues, friends, family members and distinguished guests attended the courthouse dedication ceremony. Congratulatory remarks were delivered by members of the California Supreme Court, Superior Court of Los Angeles County, U.S. Congress, State Assembly, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Mayor of Long Beach, and Bar Association of Long Beach.

The half million square feet Deukmejian Courthouse includes 31 courtrooms, administrative space, detention facilities, offices for county justice agencies, and compatible retail space. The building features the latest safety and environmental innovations with functional public spaces for the efficient conduct of business and movement of people throughout the building.

Successive speakers emphasized Gov. Deukmejian’s strong family values and his Armenian heritage. California Supreme Court Justice Marvin Baxter (Bagdasarian), who had worked for Gov. Deukmejian as Appointments Secretary, mentioned in his keynote remarks that the governor had “moved from New York to California in 1955, armed only with his law degree and high principles instilled by his Armenian-American immigrant parents…. He was an outstanding legislator, attorney general, and governor. He earned and retained our respect through more than a quarter century of excellent public service at the highest levels.”

Gov. Deukmejian, a native of the village of Menands, New York, was named Courken at birth. His father, Courken, was from Aintab and mother, Elbiss (Alice), from Arapkir.

Justice Baxter recalled that the Judicial Council of California had decided with a unanimous vote to name the new building as the Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse. “This action reflects the bipartisan respect and support” the governor enjoys “throughout this nation and state,” Baxter proudly proclaimed.

The 35th governor of California was the last speaker of the evening before unveiling the dedication plaque, surrounded by his wife Gloria, their children and grandchildren.

“So many parties skillfully have combined their talent and expertise to produce a truly extraordinary new courthouse building in Long Beach,” stated Gov. Deukmejian. “It is an outstanding addition to the skyline and to the fabric of the city, and I am proud and pleased to have my name associated with it.” He called the dedication ceremony “a wonderful, touching and humbling capstone to my life and career in public service.”

In a jovial mood, Gov. Deukmejian made self-deprecating remarks about his well-known “lack of charisma,” and his long Armenian last name which he had never considered changing or shortening. “My only concern has been that my name wouldn’t fit” on the courthouse building, the governor joked to the great amusement of the guests.

One would hope that the 85-year-old governor would soon make his first trip to Armenia. It is important that the young generation of Armenians in the homeland get to know him as an outstanding role model and inspiration for their future accomplishments.

Senior diplomat among at least 23 killed and 146 injured in twin suicide blasts outside the Iranian embassy in Beirut

explosions- Iranian Embassy in Beirut3

A senior Iranian diplomat was reportedly among at least 23 people killed and 146 injured today in two suicide bomb blasts that struck close to the Iranian Embassy in the Lebanese capital of Beirut.

Lebanon’s National News Agency said the mid-morning explosions hit Beirut’s upscale neighborhood of Janah, a stronghold of the Shiite militant Hezbollah group.

Footage from security cameras showed a man rushing towards the outer wall of the Iranian embassy before blowing himself up, Lebanese officials said.

The officials who watched the videos said the second explosion was caused by a car bomb parked two buildings away from the embassy.

Lebanese security officials confirmed the two bombings were both suicide attacks. They spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

‘We tell those who carried out the attack, you will not be able to break us,’ Hezbollah lawmaker Ali Mikdad told Al-Mayadeen TV. ‘We got the message and we know who sent it and we know how to retaliate.’

Attacks have targeted Lebanon’s Shiite strongholds recently in what many see as retaliation by extremists for Hezbollah’s role in Syria.

Hezbollah has been fighting alongside Syrian President Bashar Assad’s forces against largely Sunni rebels seeking to topple his government.

Can a sex strike work? Women in small Colombian town launch ‘Crossed Leg Movement’ to demand dangerous road be repaved

Barbacaos-Colombia-women- sex strikeWomen in the small town of Barbacaos, southwest Colombia, have reportedly gone on their second sex strike in two years, demanding that the roads to their remote region be repaved.

Dubbed the ‘crossed legs movement,’ the women in the town are refusing to have sex with their significant others until the road that connects their small, isolated town to the rest of the country is repaired, according to Colombia-based reporter John Otis.

And it might have actually worked. PRI reports that construction has resumed on the single road, which is in such poor condition that trips to the nearest hospital take up to 14 hours, and many people in need of care die along the way.

Women in the town first began withholding sex in 2011 to protest the poor condition of the road, where Judge Marybell Silva joined the strike after seeing a young woman die along with her unborn child because the ambulance got stuck on the road and failed to reach a hospital in time.

Strike leader Ruby Quinonez said at the time: ‘Why bring children into this world when they can just die without medical attention and we can’t even offer them the most basic rights? We decided to stop having sex and stop having children until the state fulfils its previous promises.’

After three months and 19 days of abstinence, town politicians promised the road would be repaired and the government pledged $21million to pave at least half of the 35-mile road.

But after two years and no change, women resumed the strike. Now it seems the Army Corps of Engineers have brought in bulldozers and ‘heavy machinery’ to prove  they will indeed rebuild the road.

Prince George’s big day out

London (CNN) — Prince George made his first public appearance in three months Wednesday, as he arrived with his parents, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, for his christening at St. James’s Palace.

The baby prince smiled as he was shown off to family members including his great-grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, before the royals entered the Chapel Royal.

George was dressed in an elaborate lace and satin christening gown that’s a replica of one made in 1841 for the christening of Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter.

Being baptized into the church is more significant for George than for most people, since he is in line to become king, which would also make him the supreme governor of the Church of England.

Royal couple’s 1st appearance since baby

The occasion was kept uncharacteristically small, in a shift away from the larger ceremonies that his father and grandfather enjoyed at Buckingham Palace.

His grandfather Prince Charles and uncle, Prince Harry, were among the select few invited to the ceremony, along with Catherine’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and her siblings, James and Pippa.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev. Justin Welby, greeted the guests as they arrived at the chapel.

The royal baby, who was born in July, has seven godparents, among them Prince William’s cousin Zara Tindall, daughter of Princess Anne, and close friends of the couple.

They include Oliver Baker, who got to know William and Catherine at St. Andrew’s University, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, who went to school with Catherine, and William van Cutsem, a childhood friend of William.

The other godparents are Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, a former private secretary to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry; Julia Samuel, who was a good friend of William’s mother, Diana, Princess of Wales; and Earl Grosvenor, son of the Duke of Westminster.

The replica christening gown was brought into use in 2008 to help preserve the 170-year-old original, used until then for every royal christening, including those of Prince William and his father, Charles.

The venue for the christening also has a special significance for Prince William. The body of his mother, Diana, rested in the Chapel Royal for five days before her funeral in 1997.

After the service, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, held a private tea at Clarence House. The guests were served slices of christening cake, which is a tier taken from William and Catherine’s 2011 wedding cake.

‘What a gift’

In a short video posted on his website, Welby spoke of the significance of the baby prince’s baptism, which will see him “join the family of the church,” numbering almost 2 billion people around the world.

Welby said any christening was a moment for the parents to celebrate the birth of their child, royal or not.

“All babies are unbelievably special, not only royal babies,” he said.

But Prince George’s christening does carry an extra significance, he said.

“As a nation we are celebrating the birth of someone who in due course will be the head of state. That’s extraordinary. It gives you this sense of forward looking, of the forwardness of history as well as the backwardness of history, and what a gift to have this new life and to look forward.”

As with any other infant’s baptism, Welby marked the Prince with the sign of the cross on his forehead and splash water on his head.

The silver font used for George’s baptism has been used for every royal christening since 1841 and will be filled with water from the River Jordan.

The 3-month-old boy has already made history. He’s the first royal baby to be honored with a christening coin from the Royal Mint.

The design of the coins, produced by the mint in a range of sizes and materials, has been approved by his parents and the Queen, the Royal Mint said.

The public can buy the keepsakes, which start at 13 pounds ($21) for the simplest type but rise to a whopping 50,000 pounds ($80,000) for a version containing a kilogram of gold.

Prince George’s christening ceremony included two hymns, two lessons and two anthems, according to Kensington Palace.

Prince Harry read him a lesson form John 15:1-5, and his aunt Pippa Middleton read Luke 18:15-17.

The music started with a processional, Bach’s “Fantasia in G,” played on organ.

The Choir of Her Majesty’s Chapel Royal, made up of six men and 10 boys, sang the anthem “Blessed Jesu! Here we Stand,” which was written for the baptism of baby George’s father, Prince William, in 1982.

The second anthem was “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” by John Rutter.

The newest royal also heard the hymns “Breathe on Me, Breathe on God” and “Be Thou My Vision” before the organ played the recessional, which was C.W. Widor’s Toccata from Symphony No. 5.

The answer of Deputy Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan to the question of News.am agency

շավարշ քոչարյան

Question: The European Parliament today adopted a resolution of “the Eastern Partnership”, which because of the doubtful efforts of some of the parliamentarians of the European Parliament, contains wording on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. How would you comment that?
Answer: In the EP resolution on “Eastern Partnership” the wording on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is in contradiction to the European Union’s official position, as well as to the positions of internationally mandated format of mediation – the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, USA and France.
Despite the fact that the above mentioned resolution is non-binding, nonetheless independent of the motivations of the authors of that wording, they should understand that they bear responsibility for its possibly negative impact on the negotiation process and undermining of the efforts of the Co-Chairs aimed at the peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Wealthy Serbian looking for love posts hilarious photographs showing off his wealth (and fluffy pink dressing gown) in a bid to find young bride

Don Milisav Juan Gonzales Brzi9

A wealthy Serbian bachelor has been posting pictures of himself in his mansion in the hope that his wealth will lure in a lady.

In a note attached to the photos, the man who calls himself Don Milisav Juan Gonzales Brzi, says: ‘To all unmarried ones who would like to spend their life by my side and within all the beauties of my home.

‘Please look below at all the magic of my home that I have decorated with taste, perhaps just for YOU.’
The bizarre snaps have been circulating on Croatian, Bosnian and Serbian websites and have since gone viral.

In them the grey-haired singleton is seen standing awkwardly in his bathroom, ‘relaxing’ on a bed and kneeling in what appears to be a hallway.

Mr Brzi claims to be 39-years-old, living in St Petersburg and looking for a much younger 16-20-year-old for a relationship and marriage.

Artwork and painted frescoes decorate nearly every wall in his home, including in both of the huge bathrooms.

Whoever takes up his offer will have to deal with the cold weather, as temperatures can plummet as low as -5C in winter.

Perhaps the young lady in question could borrow one of Brzi’s fur coats to keep warm in, as he appears to have several.

Despite appearing on Eastern European websites months ago, it is not known whether or not Mr Brzi ever found his dream nubile bride.
