If heights aren’t your thing, you might want to steer clear of a new skyscraper in China.

Hitachi have announced they are to build the world’s fastest ultra-high-speed elevator in the Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre in Guangzhou, China.

The building will be completed in 2016, and inside will be the rapid lifts that can climb 95 floors in just 43 seconds.

The Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre is an upscale mixed-use skyscraper that will provide office, hotel and residential space.

In total the giant structure will have 111 above-ground floors and five below-ground floors.

In total the structure will have 95 elevators but only two will hold the accolade of being the world’s fastest.
Hitachi say the elevator will have technologies that support safe and comfortable elevator operation, so passengers will have a comfortable ride even at these high speeds.

Justin Bieber Apologizes for Japan War Shrine Trip

Justin Bieber apologized Wednesday to those he offended by visiting Japan’s Yasukuni war shrine this week, saying he was misled to see it as only a place of prayer.

The Shinto shrine in Tokyo honors 2.5 million war dead, including 14 convicted war criminals. China and South Korea in particular see Yasukuni as a symbol of Japan’s past militarism and see visits to it as a lack of understanding or remorse over wartime history.

Two photos posted late Tuesday and subsequently removed from Instagram showed Bieber praying outdoors at the shrine and standing beside a Shinto priest. The images outraged China as well as many commenters on Instagram and Twitter.

In a new Instagram post Wednesday evening, Bieber said he asked his driver to stop when he saw the shrine.

Afghan Election Commission Delays Vote Results

afghanistan-electionAfghanistan’s election commission has delayed a planned release of full results from the April 5 presidential election to allow for recounts and audits.

Wednesday’s announcement increases confusion surrounding the balloting to replace President Hamid Karzai, who is ineligible for a third term.

The results were expected on Thursday but Independent Election Commission director Ziaulhaq Amarkhil says they would be postponed until at least Saturday to ensure they are not tainted by fraud. The preliminary results then must be investigated by a separate commission before being finalized by May 14.

So far, partial results of about half the 7 million votes cast show former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah in the lead and ex-finance minister Asraf Ghani Ahmadzai in second.
