Green tea has always been hailed as the healthiest hot drink of choice, but new research has found it can also be good for your mind.

Scientists claim green tea enhances several cognitive functions, in particular our working memory.

The new findings suggest that green tea could be used to treat dementia and other psychiatric disorders.

The new research, from the University of Basel, found that green tea extract increases the brain’s effective connectivity.

The findings suggest green tea could be used to help treat memory loss caused by psychiatric disorders or as part of recovery.

Kerry Warns Russia of Tough New Sanctions

Secretary of State John Kerry is warning Russia of harsher economic sanctions if it doesn’t back down from involvement in Ukraine.

Kerry was testifying Tuesday before a Senate panel. He said pro-Russia demonstrations at regional government headquarters in Kharkiv and the Donetsk regional administration were contrived and a pretext for military intervention.

Kerry said the U.S. and European allies were united and willing to impose tough new penalties on Russian energy, banking and mining if Moscow fails to honor a sovereign Ukraine.

Kerry said he would meet next week in Europe with Russia Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov (SEHR’-gay LAHV’-rahf) and Ukrainian officials. He said Russia has a choice and can work with the international community.

Au revoir! Istanbul and Rome knock Paris and New York off top spots of 10 best destinations in the world (and London scoops third place)

Paris has been knocked off the number one spot of the world’s top destination – with Istanbul now firmly in first place.

Despite announcing record tourist figures for 2013, the French capital lost out to Turkey, dropping to seventh in this year’s Travellers’ Choice Destinations awards, voted for by millions of holidaymakers.

A newcomer to the top 10, Istanbul swooped in to the number one position, just ahead of Rome, which itself rose two places from fourth last year.

New York was gazumped by Rome from second place, falling out of the top 10 of the TripAdvisor list to number 12, figures released today show.

However, London managed to retain the same position as last year, holding fast to its title as the third best destination in the world.

This year’s fourth place in the world’s top destinations awards went to China’s Beijing, followed by the Czech Republic’s Prague to make up the top five.
