Justin Timberlake’s Instagram Photo Sparks Palestinian Fans’ Anger

justin-timberlakeSome Palestinian fans apparently got angry over Justin Timberlake‘s Instagram post. Prior to his concert in Tel Aviv on May 28, the award-winning singer shared a photo of him at the Western Wall.

He captioned the snap, “The Holy Land… What an experience. I will never forget this day. #Israel.”

Some fans who do not like the post voiced their opinion in the comment section. One Instagram user wrote, “There was never an Israel, this was always Palestine.” Another wrote, “Israel is defiantly not holy land. they kill [Palestinians] every single day for nothing!”
The concert organizer sold 44,000 tickets for the gig which took place at Tel Aviv’s Hayarkon Park.

1 missing after explosion sparks fire on oil tanker off Japanese coast

japan-tankerAn explosion on an oil tanker off the Japanese coast set off a huge fire Thursday and left the vessel’s captain missing.

Ships and aircraft battled the blaze on the Shoko Maru, a 998-ton tanker anchored about 5 kilometers (3 miles) off the port of Himeji in western Japan, the coast guard said.

Rescuers have recovered seven members of the eight-person crew, the coast guard said, but the ship’s 64-year-old captain is still missing.

Four of the rescued crew remembers were seriously injured in the blast, the Himeji fire department said, and all seven of them were taken to hospitals after arriving in the port, which is about 75 kilometers (45 miles) west of Osaka on the Seto Inland Sea.

The tanker wasn’t loaded when the blast went off Thursday morning, the coast guard said, reducing fears of a major environmental disaster.

The coast guard said it was still investigating the cause the explosion on the ship, which belongs to Shoho Shopping Co. Ltd, a company based in Hiroshima, Japan.

Actor Brad Pitt was struck in the face as he was signing autographs at a movie premiere Wednesday, Los Angeles police said.

Pitt was at the Hollywood premiere of “Maleficent,” starring his partner Angelina Jolie, when a man hopped a barrier and attacked the actor, Sgt. Leonard Calderon said.

Officers arrested the suspect, 25-year-old Vitalii Sediuk, on suspicion of battery.

Sediuk has a history of confronting celebrities at red carpet events. In 2012, he was slapped by actor Will Smith after he attempted to kiss Smith.

At the 2013 Grammy Awards, Sediuk charged the stage before singer Adele could accept her award.

Sediuk also hugged actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Bradley Cooper around the knees at separate events earlier this year.

Most recently, he put his head up America Ferrara’s dress at the Cannes premiere of “How to Train Your Dragon 2” last week.

No Countries Want to Host the 2022 Olympics

Add Krakow to the growing list of cities who do not want to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The Polish city withdrew its bid this week after residents overwhelmingly voted against the plan, according to the Associated Press.

Now only four cities remain in the bidding process, and two of those may soon be ruled out — leaving only Kazakhstan and China as contenders.

Krakow had proposed co-hosting the games with neighboring Slovakia, but more than 70 percent of the voters in Krakow’s referendum said they did not want to host the event.

It is the latest city to reject the opportunity to host the games: Stockholm, Sweden, withdrew its bid in January citing cost; voters in Munich, Germany, rejected a proposal to host the games citing “greed” of the International Olympic Committee; and voters rejected a bid for Davos and St. Moritz to jointly hold the games.

The rash of rejections could be attributed to the rising cost of hosting the games.

The 2014 Olympics in Sochi, for example, ran up a bill of about $51 billion, while the 2008 Beijing Games cost nearly $40 billion.

The proposal to host in Oslo, Norway, faces steep opposition from voters and from one-half of the coalition government, while the city of Lviv, Ukraine, is considered unlikely due to political unrest in the country.

Almaty, Kazakhstan, and Beijing, China remain as the two cities which still seem to want to host the Winter Games.

The IOC is set to meet in six weeks in Switzerland to select a short list of finalists.
