This is no Mickey Mouse search for love: Chinese mother, 75, dresses up as Disney character to raise money to help 40-year-old son find a wife

The 75-year-old mother of a Chinese man has taken to dressing up as Mickey Mouse in order to raise money to help him find a girlfriend.

Single man Yang Guan, 40, thought his mother was joking when she said she would use a second hand Disney costume to pose with tourists in the local park in Luoyang, Henan province, central China, so she could raise some extra cash to help him get his life on track.

His mother Yang Zhiqiao said she had been feeling bad for her son because he couldn’t get a girlfriend, and raising money was a way to help him support a potential wife.

Local children have started calling Zhiqiao the ‘Mickey Mouse Grandma’, and she has taken to charging a 10 yuan fee to have a picture taken with her in popular tourist venues.

However, many people have been paying her a lot more when they find out that she is a frail old lady struggling in a heavy costume.

Zhiqiao’s son bought the costume originally, planning to use it to make some money, but now it is his mother that uses it, as his day job prevented him from doing so.

Shift workers beware: Sleep loss may cause brain damage, new research says

sleep-loss

Are you a truck driver or shift worker planning to catch up on some sleep this weekend?

Cramming in extra hours of shut-eye may not make up for those lost pulling all-nighters, new research indicates.

The damage may already be done — brain damage, that is, said neuroscientist Sigrid Veasey from the University of Pennsylvania.

The widely held idea that you can pay back a sizeable “sleep debt” with long naps later on seems to be a myth, she said in a study published this week in the Journal of Neuroscience.

Long-term sleep deprivation saps the brain of power even after days of recovery sleep, Veasey said. And that could be a sign of lasting brain injury.

The discovery that long-term sleep loss can result in a loss of brain cells is a first, Veasey said.

They hope their research will result in medicines that will help people working odd hours cope with the consequences of irregular sleep.

Chinese media: Kindergartens suspected of drugging students to boost attendance

չինաստան

Kindergartens in three Chinese provinces are accused of giving prescription drugs to children without their parents’ knowledge, according to Xinhua, China’s state-run news agency.

The drugs were given to prevent the children from getting sick in order to boost attendance, the news agency reported. The schools get paid based on attendance.

The scandal started last week in one kindergarten in the city of Xi’an and has now spread to several in the country, prompting China’s education and health ministries to require its local branches to check all kindergartens and primary schools for illegally administered drugs, according to the Global Times newspaper.

Almost 2,000 children who attended the suspected kindergartens are receiving medical attention as some reported side effects from the medication, such as dizziness, stomachaches, leg pains and genital swelling, Xinhua said.

Some angry parents of the affected kindergartens rallied in front of the facilities and local government buildings.

Woman finds 100 MILLION lire in her safe – only to be told it’s worth NOTHING because Italy has had the euro for more than a decade

 100 միլիոն լիրա

A woman who found 100 million lire in cash which would be worth £43million has been told the money is worthless because the currency is no longer in use.

Claudia Moretti discovered the cash a few months ago stashed in a safe at her uncle’s home which she had inherited following his death.

Ms Moretti, who lives in Pesaro on the Adriatic coast, was delighted to be given the house and said she was stunned when she found the fortune in the safe.

However, her hopes of being set up for life were dashed when she went to Italy’s central bank (Banca d’Italia) to have the cash exchanged into euros where she was told the money was now worthless.

She hired lawyers to challenge the decision but they were unsuccessful because before adopting the euro currency on January 1 2002, Italy’s central bank had set a time limit for the exchange of the lira.

Any coins or banknotes not presented to the bank before December 6, 2011, were then declared worthless.

Italy had the strictest time limit of all 18 eurozone countries, although Finland, France and Greece were just a year behind with a 2012 deadline.

The central banks of nine eurozone countries, including Germany and Ireland, set no limit for exchanging banknotes from the old national currency.

President held a consultation with the leadership of the Ministry of Health

սերժ սարգսյան, առողջապահություն

President Serzh Sargsyan today visited the Ministry of Health. The President of Armenia toured a number of structural units of the Ministry staff, including the Division of Pharmaceutical Activities Organization, Medicine and Technology Supply, the Department of Mother and Child Health Protection and the Division of Emergency First Aid Policy. Sarah Sargsyan familiarized with working conditions, talked to employees about their functions, projects being implemented and existing problems, inquired about the results of the single-window system introduced jointly with the State Revenue Committee in order to make the process of medicine import more transparent and easier. After finishing the tour, the President of Armenia held a consultation with the leadership of the Ministry.

The Minister of Health, the Deputy Ministers and the Head of Staff reported on the works implemented in specific fields under their supervision, the existing problems, the measures taken to deal with those problems, as well as on the forthcoming projects.

The RA Minister of Health Derenik Dumanyan presented the main results of the 2012-2014 activities of the Ministry. Apart from talking about the achievements and the reforms implemented in health service system, the Minister also touched upon the existing problems, the measures taken to deal with those problems, in particular stressing the importance of the works directed to the quality of medical aid, ensuring accessibility and the supervision of corruption risks. In his report Derenik Dumanyan also presented the works being implemented in order to raise the effectiveness of public management in the field of medicine circulation.

The Deputy Minister Sergey Khachatryan’s report touched the issues of mother and child health protection, the results obtained in that sphere and the future projects.

The Deputy Minister Tigran Sahakyan introduced the issues of human resource management and the sphere of certification in health service system, touched upon the disproportionate distribution of human resources and the other issues existing in the field, as well as the possible solutions to those issues.

The other Deputy Minister Arman Babloyan’s report embraced the issues of proportionate development of Marz health service system and the projects directed to overcoming those issues in the framework of international cooperation, as well as the forthcoming works.

The Head of Staff of the Ministry Suren Qrmoyan presenting the organizational structure of the Ministry and the saturation level of human resources reported on the works regarding the human resources and the current management, as well as the steps being taken to raise the effectiveness of the personnel management activities.

The President gave questions to the speakers about separate issues touched in the reports, presented his observations and remarks and gave relevant instructions to the staff in charge.

The President stressed the importance of the consistent work directed to the continual retraining of medical personnel and the improvement of specialists’ qualification considering the modern approaches existing in the world, the achievements and the progress.

Touching upon the issue of the existence of substantial number of vacancies mentioned by the Head of Staff, the President considered incomprehensible and inacceptable the works of the Ministry’s staff in charge for not recruiting those vacancies as soon as possible and not informing unemployed qualified professionals about the vacancies widely and in the due manner. “I think that the Ministry of Health has a peculiarity because doctors first of all always want to work in their profession, want to engage in practical medicine, rather than look for work at other structures. You should always find the people who possess knowledge and are ready to serve in their profession,” said President Serzh Sargsyan.

In his remarks Serzh Sargsyan touched upon the works accomplished by the Ministry within the accounting period, the forthcoming problems, the top-priority directions of the activities and the policy carried out by that government body in the relevant sphere. “I wish all of you success in your hard, responsible and gratifying labor hoping that that honorable work is occupied by the people who have a desire, because having mere knowledge is not a sufficient, but a necessary condition. Moreover, one should have a desire to serve the work for which he has chosen that work,” said President Serzh Sargysan wishing successes and expressing hope that every time summing up the results of activities, new achievements will be touched upon, positive new results will be obtained at work and urged not to be afraid to mentioned also those issues or to bring out the regress in those issues on which the efforts should be concentrated in order to succeed henceforth.

The President of Armenia also answered the questions of the participants of the consultation related to the social problems of health service system employers, the continual work directed to the proportionate development of Marz health service system, the foreign policy of our country and a number of other issues. Particularly, answering the question on what he thinks about the decree of the Swiss Government on appealing the 17 December 2013 verdict of the European Court on the case of so called “Perinçek versus Switzerland” Serzh Sargsyan underscored, “I think it is excellent and inspiring. All of us should express our positive attitude to the decree adopted by the Swiss Government. Everybody knows that Switzerland has always been one of the active protectors of human rights in the international arena, one of the most active Governments in the struggle against racial discrimination attitude, one of the most active Governments in the struggle against the structures sowing xenophobia, the people and the phenomenon in general and we expected Switzerland to make a positive and right decision regarding this issue as well which we witnessed. That decision was expected and anticipated. Of course, the role of the Swiss authorities in making that decision is immense. The Swiss Government issued the decree by itself but here we should assess the contribution of the Swiss Government and different people or their attitude toward the verdict of the European Court, their appeal to the Swiss Government, the engagement of the International Association of Genocide Scholars, different individuals and various structures.

The decree of the Swiss Government is only a start of a big process because the European Court of Human Rights should still make a decision on bringing the case to its proceeding to investigate in essence. However, we are sure that the European Court of Human Rights will make such a decision which will not insult the people surviving in genocide and will not revile the memory of the millions of people who just became innocent victims. However, any activities need vigor and struggle and I am sure that the Swiss Government will pursue its own decision. It is clear why that issue is important for us. On the other hand, the question is that the European Court to some extent finds a drawback in the sphere administering justice in Switzerland. However, all of us know that Switzerland is a country which has passed a great path and professes high values. Thus, the Swiss should also prove by themselves the integrity of their judicial system and the entire government system in general.”

At the end of the consultation, a group of employees of the Ministry were awarded encouragements for their conscientious and effective work: the Head of the Division of Mother and Reproductive Health Protection of the Department of Mother and Child Health Protection Gayane Avagyan, the Head of Secretariat Zaruhi Darbinyan, the Chief Specialist of the Department of Personnel Management Rosa Eritsyan, the Chief Specialist of the Division of Hospital Medical Aid Policy of the Department of Medical Aid Policy Tamara Ghukasyan were awarded Letters of Commendation.

Once it is gone, clients will be given a bottle containing some of the meltwater, along with the sketches and blueprints for the design, and photographs of the suite.

Peru authorities crackdown on naked photos and streaking at Machu Picchu

Մաչու Պիկչո

Tourists getting naked at one of Peru’s most iconic cultural sites are facing a crackdown by authorities.

The move to step up surveillance at Machu Picchu comes after videos and photos were posted online of foreigners stripping off and streaking across the Incan ruins, prompting a response from the Ministry of Culture.

They were briefly held in custody and forced to delete naked photographs from their digital camera – but not before it had gone viral on Peruvian social media after it was ‘irresponsibly published to the Internet,’ the police statement says.
Last month, a video was posted to YouTube showing a naked couple streaking across Machu Picchu, considered to be a sacred holy site, as a park guard gave chase.

The couple can be seen running through the grass, holding their clothes in their hands, jumping over the ancient stone walls.

The incident was filmed by another tourist.

The man’s descendants have now decided to sell it, meaning its history can be revealed.

Chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan,, the IT Development Support Council held today a regular meeting in the Office of Government.

The Council first reviewed the status of previous meeting’s assignments. 60 such groups were said to have been set up nationwide, which are supposed to triple in number in the near future. The private sector has turned to the government for financial support, and the Prime Minister has approved the request. Various donors are expected to be involved in the project.

The meeting approved a proposal to post all the corresponding draft laws in RSS format at the Ministry of Justice official website. Tigran Sargsyan instructed the relevant authorities to discuss the issue and submit recommendations.

Such feedback is a must for the government to understand and address the threats in a timely manner, which are given a prompt response.”

In conclusion, the Prime Minister urged the IT sector representatives to identify and report back all the problems in order to find coordinated solutions and implement new programs.

Nepal considers ‘renting out’ Himalayas to private companies to sell tourist trips

հիմալայներ

Nepal’s most famous Himalayan peaks could soon be leased out to private companies to sell holidays to tourists, in a bid to cut down on the numbers attempting to conquer Everest.

The controversial new tactic would involve the Nepalese government hiring out some of the country’s 326 pristine mountainsides to private companies who would then sell them as new tourist products.

The move aims to capitalise on Nepal’s biggest tourist draws, while also combating overcrowding problems on Everest.

The country is also considering lowering mountaineering fees to attract more trekkers to the region.

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and relies on tourism for foreign revenue.

The proposal would need to get the green light from the Cabinet before it is implemented.
