French jet placed in quarantine after passengers develop symptoms of swine flu and crew discover they had all recently been to Asia

Air FranceA plane full of passengers on a French runway has been quarantined after many developed swine flu-like symptoms.

During the flight, 47 passengers started coughing and spluttering while others developed signs of a fever, local media reported.

As flight attendants questioned passenger, it emerged that many were returning from Asia.

The plane operated by Hop, the budget subsidiary of Air France, landed at Blagnac Airport near Toulouse, authorities decided to take precautions and quarantine everyone in their plane seats according to The Local.

Many of the passengers were returning from a trip to Bangkok, Thailand and flown via Dubai.

Paramedics examined each passenger which took several hours before allowing all but 16 to continue their onward journey.

The remaining 16 people were taken to the infectious diseases department at Purpan Hospital where further testing were carried out and found to be suffering just the simple flu and were discharged from hospital according to France TV.

Young girl had a ‘fully grown’ dandelion inside her EAR and had to have it surgically removed by doctors in China

խատուտիկDoctors were left stunned after discovering a dandelion growing inside the ear canal of a 16-month girl.

The flower was found by medics in Beijing, China, after the child was taken to hospital crying and in pain by her worried mother.

It had partly flowered and had grown to nearly 2cm long before being surgically removed, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

The parents of the girl, called Ranran, said their daughter had been complaining about an earache for four months but both had dismissed her.

But after the girl started scratching the offending ear, her mother had a look and saw ‘something’ inside.
After trying and failing to get it out, she took the child to hospital where the shocking discovery was made.

Doctors said the dandelion had grown into the girl’s ear and had completely filled the canal wall, which could have caused the infant serious damage.

The warm and humid conditions in the ear canal are likely to have encouraged growth, added the doctor.

It is far from the first time a disturbing discovery has been made in someone’s ear.

In July, an English woman who had unexplained headaches learned that her ears were filled with flesh-eating worms she picked up in Peru.

And last year, a woman in China who complained of an itch was found to have a spider living inside.

Much Love to My One and Only Armenia, May You Prosper and Live Forever

HaikFirst of all, I would like to apologize for making this long. I just thought it would be nice to put all my thoughts and emotions I have been keeping inside for the past 40 days on paper. I am writing this in English so that everyone can understand including Armenians around the world who can’t read Armenian and my European comrades. I think it is important to tell everyone my experience being in the fatherland for the first time in my life. Forty days have passed and today is my last day in the fatherland. It breaks my heart to have to go back because I am leaving a place which is very dear to my heart. All my life I have felt a sort of emptiness and alienation which vanished the second I stepped foot on the land of my forefathers. I am angry about all the negative things I have been told about Armenia from my fellow Armenians, nearly all of it turned out to be a complete lie. I have never felt more of a complete person, mentally, physically and spiritually as I do in my own country. Being around your own kind and living on the land which your forefathers have fought, suffered and died gives you a sort of strength which words cannot describe. I did not just visit my country as a tourist going to only the tourist attraction sites and staying in a fancy room in the center of town. I rented a simple and convenient place in the south part of town where no tourist will even set foot on and spent my 40 days with people from all walks of life. I have met and spent time with professors, freedom fighters, generals, politicians, soldiers, labor men, doctors, police officers, programmers, villagers, taxi drivers and many others to really understand and feel how life is over here. I have hiked mountains, swam in rivers next to a waterfall, ate lunch with labor men in their work field, spent days at villages, danced “kochari” with freedom fighters at weddings and did so much more. The time I have spent here will never be forgotten and will be ingrained in my memories forever. I always knew and felt that Armenia is where I belong and this trip really showed me that not only is Armenia made for me but that I am made for Armenia. Everything about Armenia really speaks to my soul. There is definitely something very spiritual about this place and while living here I really felt my body unite with my spirit.

All my life I knew without a doubt that I have a special destiny here and this trip was a total confirmation. Do not believe anything people say until you experience something for yourself, that is another very important lesson I learned while being here. I have met with many people here and I can honestly say that almost all was nothing but positive experiences. I have met more dear friends here in 40 days than I have living in California my whole life. The love for my people, the loyalty to my people and country is something that no amount of money in the world can take away from me. It is absolutely crucial for us to understand that we must accept personal responsibility for whatever situation our country is in, good or bad. We must accept personal responsibility and do whatever we can do to make sure that our future descendants have a better country to live in instead of throwing blame on others and expecting them to make it better while we sit on our hands. Everyone can participate no matter what with NO excuses whatsoever. We are lying to ourselves by saying that we can still stay Armenian by living outside the fatherland, something which is impossible and foolish to believe. Armenians can only remain Armenian in Armenia and that is the plain and simple truth. I have come to the conclusion that the only place for a true nationalist and patriot is his or her own fatherland. The adventure I had was not only a journey to discover Armenia, but more of a journey to discover myself. The experiences I had here was nothing short of magical and I would like to thank everyone who made this trip so wonderful for me. I feel like I am reborn and this was definitely my 40 days “in the desert” or more like 40 days in the mountains. I end my trip with a joyful heart in the knowledge of what my real calling has always been and what it will always be, to serve Armenia by any means necessary without any ifs, buts, where’s, how’s or whys and to one day very soon return to her and never look back.

Much love to my one and only Armenia, may you prosper and live forever.

Cher Says Thanksgiving Celebrates ‘a Great Crime’

Շեր

Cher doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving. In fact, the 67-year-old singer/songwriter blasts the holiday tradition on Twitter, “I DON’T! 4 me & my Family,it’s a day,When every1 is free 4Diner & a movie,Not 2 celebrate the beginning of a GREAT Crime.”
When one of her followers asked her to elaborate what she meant with the “crime,” the mother of two quickly explained, “Stealing Land, from a ppl,Who believed,Owning LAND Was LIke Owning SKY! We gave them Blankets laced w/Smallpox.”

Cher whose real name is Cherilyn Sarkisian has Cherokee ancestry from her mother’s side. She apparently believes Thanksgiving celebrates the day the settlers stole from Native Americans who had no concept of property and infected them with smallpox.

Despite her opposition to the holiday, Cher wished her friends a happy day on November 28. “2 My Crew, I Hope Tomm.is a Glorious day 4 ALL OF U. Remember..A Kind Word,Gesture,Or Compliment, can make ANY1’S DAY! THANX4BeingThere4Me,” so she wrote.

‘My 14in nails are my babies – I’ve named the longest one Miss Attitude’: Childminder, 54, hasn’t cut her talons for EIGHT years

A mother-of-four has says she has spent an astonishing £10,000 in keeping her 14-inch nails in tip-top shape and has not cut them for over eight years.

Larue Drummond, 54, started growing her nails out at age 13 as a cure for compulsive nail biting.

Լարու Դրամոնդ, եղունգներNow she says her extreme talons are like her babies and she can spend up to 12 hours at a time getting them pampered.

LaRue shells out hundreds having her nails coloured and adorned with rhinestones.

The grandmother-of-eight says she attracts attention wherever she goes from people curious about her extreme nails.

And while her look is shocking to many, LaRue says she wants to grow them even bigger.

Up until eight years ago LaRue, from New Jersey, USA, kept her nails at a ‘sensible’ three inches, but then decided to grow them as long as possible.

LaRue spends 30 minutes cleaning her nails every day and gets her nails shaped and painted each month, costing £100 for a session, which can last up to 12 hours.

Spain Sets Heavy Fines for Violent Protests

Իսպանիա,տուգանքներ

The Spanish government has approved draft legislation that sets fines of up to 30,000 euros ($40,800) for offenses such as burning the national flag, insulting the state or causing serious disturbances outside Parliament. The draft Citizen Security Bill presented Friday by Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez Diez has been heavily criticized by opposition parties, judicial and social groups as an attempt by the conservative government to muzzle protests against its handling of the severe economic crisis. The measures, an update of a 1992 law, also include fines of up to 1,000 euros for insulting or threatening police officers during demonstrations. Similar fines are planned for disseminating photographs of police officers that endanger them or police operations. The bill must be approved by Parliament, where the ruling party has an absolute majority.

Commuters PUSH train off a suicidal woman who had jumped in front of it on Japanese subway

A woman trapped under a train was freed when commuters worked together to push it backwards.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon on the JR Yamanote Line at Shibuya Station in Tokyo, Japan.

The woman, reportedly in her 60s, was heard crying out for help from beneath the train and she lay between the rails of the track.

Reports in Japan suggested the elderly woman had attempted to kill herself by jumping in front of the oncoming train.

Then, following an announcement over the station’s public address system informing commuters that a woman was trapped beneath the train and asking for their help, the crowd intervened.

Dozens of people managed to push the carriage back far enough for station staff to be able to help her.

The woman was freed at taken to hospital for treatment.

Reports suggest that the accident, which occurred just before the evening rush hour, affected more than 26,000 commuters along the line.

In July earlier this year, Japanese commuters helped another stranger in need.
On July 22, around forty passengers at the JR Minami-Urawa station, just outside Tokyo, helped push a 32-ton train carriage to free a woman trapped in the platform gap during rush hour on a Monday.

Mother ‘battered her baby son then took pictures of his injuries before she murdered him’

o_856405

A mother accused of repeatedly beating her 11-month-old son before killing him today claimed his 23-month-old brother is responsible for the injuries that led to his death.

Emma Wilson, 25, allegedly took pictures of her baby son Callum before deliberately hurting him and then taking more pictures of his injuries.

Wilson is accused of doing this several times in the weeks leading up to her son’s death when she allegedly caused him ‘catastrophic’ and ‘unsurvivable brain injuries’.

Callum was rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford in March, 2011, with a detached retina which had caused him to lose his sight and he also had multiple fractures and bruises all over his tiny body. He died two days later.

But Wilson today told the Old Bailey that Callum’s older brother is to blame for the injuries – claiming he was jealous of his younger brother.

Jurors were shown a series of photos Wilson took of Callum in the weeks leading up to his death in which bruises and scratches can clearly be seen on both his face.

But Wilson says Callum’s older brother, then aged 23 months, inflicted the injuries because he was ‘jealous’ he no longer had all her attention.

The 25-year-old told the Old Bailey she never hurt her son and claimed: ‘It’s the best thing in the world being a mum.’

Wilson told the court how she didn’t realise she was pregnant when she had her first child in April 2009.

Shortly afterwards she got pregnant with Callum after a one night stand, but she didn’t know she had conceived again until two months before he was born as she continued to have periods and hardly put on any weight.

However, she chose to put him in foster care for the first seven months of his life because her then boyfriend didn’t want anything to do with him.

It was only when the trainee nail technician bumped into Callum and his foster mum in a Mothercare in Slough in May 2010 that she went about getting him back.

He was returned to Wilson, then 23, in November 2010 who says at that point her ‘life was perfect.’

But over the next few months when social workers visited them at her Windsor home, they spotted scratches on Callum.

The jury heard she even lied to staff and parents at a play group in Maidenhead claiming Callum was her cousin’s son, providing a false surname and address for him.

On one occasion, she claimed bruising on Callum’s face had been caused by an older sister, who in fact did not exist.

But she said the reason she made up lies was because at that time no one knew Callum was hers and she couldn’t deal with the embarrassment of people asking questions.

‘It was so difficult just to say this is my son, he’s been in foster care for seven months of his life,’ she said.

Within months staff at the playgroup began to notice that Callum changed from a ‘happy, smiling baby’ to an ’emotionless and listless boy’.

But Wilson claims his injuries must have been caused by her other son who would ‘throw things at Callum and push him over’.

‘He was boisterous and would get generally jealous of Callum’, she told the court.

She claims she tried to seek advice from her parents, GP and a health visitor on how to deal with the sibling rivalry.

‘My other son would be rough with him. He liked to grab Callum’s face and would leave him with scratches and bruises,’ she told the court.

Callum was rushed to hospital with head injuries in March 2011 and died two days later.

A post mortem revealed the baby had also suffered fractures to nine ribs, to his right arm and left leg and were caused two weeks before he died.

At least 8 dead, dozens hurt, in quake in southern Iran

An earthquake shook southern Iran Thursday evening near a nuclear power plant, killing at least eight people and injuring 59 more, the semi-official Fars News Agency reported.

Twelve of the injured were in critical condition, Fars said, citing Hassan Qadami, the head of Iran’s Crisis-Management Headquarters.

A reporter for the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency in Borazjan said residential buildings were damaged and electricity was disrupted to several areas, including sections of Borazjan.

The city is in Bushehr province, which is the site of a nuclear power plant that went online in 2011. There was no immediate report of how the plant fared in Thursday’s temblor.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said he was “deeply saddened” to hear of the casualties and expressed condolences to the victims’ families.

President made a statement at the Summit of the Heads of State of Eastern Partnership countries in Vilnius

սերժ սարգսյան,վիլնյուս

President Serzh Sargsyan, who is in the Republic of Lithuania on a working visit, today in Vilnius participated at the Third Summit of the Heads of State of the Eastern Partnership countries.

At the Summit, Serzh Sargsyan made a statement.

***

Statement by Serzh Sargsyan, President of the Republic of Armenia at the Third Eastern Partnership Summit
Distinguished President Grybauskaitė,
Dear Colleagues,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

At the outset I would like to thank the Lithuanian authorities and European Commission for hosting and running well the Third Eastern Partnership Summit. The five-year history of the Eastern Partnership testifies the necessity and viability of this format. It effectively complements the architecture of pan-European co-operation and provides with an opportunity to build qualitatively new, closer and expanded relationship upon the basis of shared European values. Developing such a relationship stems from Armenia’s and Armenian people’s spiritual-cultural and historical-political heritage, and it is the conscious demand of our society.

The Eastern Partnership enabled us to give new impetus to the modernization efforts to our state and society upon the principles of democracy, human rights and rule of law. It stimulated the agenda of our wide-scale reforms. Let me merely refer to the last three general electoral processes to demonstrate the measurable outcomes that raised the benchmark in this area and significantly strengthened the Armenian electoral system.

We have reconfirmed our commitment to drive through the reforms underway in our countries by the Joint Declaration to be adopted by the Vilnius Summit. Armenia is determined to continue with the implementation of the deep and large-scale reforms aimed at fighting corruption, ensuring free economic competition, raising transparency of government activities, safeguarding the independence of judiciary, guaranteeing freedom of speech, and strengthening the civil society, which constitute the pivot of Armenia-EU relationship. Building and strengthening Armenian nationhood upon European model has been the conscious choice of ours, and that process is hence irreversible.

Our major objective is to form such mechanisms with the European Union that on the one hand would reflect the deep nature of our social-political and economic relationship, and on the other – would be compatible with other formats of co-operation. The Eastern Partnership should become a natural bridge that promotes integration from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans. In this sense we are committed to undertake consistent efforts towards building a more inclusive Europe free of dividing lines.

This very understanding is the guiding milestone of our foreign policy, and it is precisely in this vein that we seek to settle problems with our neighbors by attempting to internalize the success stories of reconciliation in Europe at a regional level. I believe that consistent adoption of the European values can help Turkey to reconcile with its own past. Today thousands of Turkish people condemn the Armenian Genocide and stand by us to commemorate the victims of the Genocide. I believe that on the eve of the Armenian Genocide Centennial the Turkish authorities should be able to demonstrate will and decline the policy of denial. In order to continue its integration with the European Union in a capacity of a European nation Turkey still faces the challenge of opening the last closed border in Europe and establishing diplomatic relations with Armenia. We expect that the EU member States, as our partners, will fully engage themselves and display consistency in order to remove the illegal blockade of Armenia by Turkey.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

A few days ago in Vienna after a pause of almost two years a meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan took place upon the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. Although it is too soon to talk of the results, the fact of the meeting in itself is a positive phenomenon. It is important to emphasize that the successful outcome of the negotiations in reality depends on our ability to reject the negative rhetoric and ease the tension on the Line of Contact. Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh have refrained from statements and steps that could destabilize the situation and embarked on the road of state-building founded upon democracy, human rights, free economic competition and freedom of speech, and unwaveringly move in that direction.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

There are high expectations from the Vilnius Summit. We view this Summit as an important stage in the development of our relations with the EU on a more streamlined and realistic foundations. It is exactly in this context that we read the final document of the Summit and Armenia-European Union Joint Declaration to be concluded today.

Thank you.

Edward Nalbandian meets with Catherine Ashton

Էդվարդ Նալբանդյան,Քեթրին Էշթոն

On November 29th Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, being within the delegation led by President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan in Vilnius, had a meeting with the EU High Representative Catherine Ashton.

The Armenian Foreign Minister and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs exchanged letters which outline the future-oriented agenda of cooperation between Armenia and the European Union.

A prosperous and stable Eastern Partnership is in the interests of all

The EU’s eastern neighbours are an integral part of Europe. They share our European history and culture, and seek to build an independent and prosperous future as sovereign nations free from outside pressure and influence. Their importance to the EU is unmistakable.

Eastern Europe has seen many fundamental shifts since 1991. The spread of democracy, open market economies, and respect for the rule of law have transformed the political landscape.  Further efforts are needed to entrench and develop the reforms that have been undertaken so far. And in support of such change, the EU has offered Association Agreements, including Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas, that will allow companies in the region the opportunity to grow by developing their trade with the world’s largest marketplace.

In Vilnius the leaders of the European Union are meeting with representatives of our nearest neighbours to the East.  At the summit Georgia and Moldova are initialling Association Agreements, marking a new stage in the EU’s relationship with these important partners, and recognising the significant commitments they have made, and action they have undertaken, to equip themselves to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Armenia has taken the decision not to join Moldova and Georgia in initialling an Association Agreement at Vilnius.  This is a disappointment. The UK remains keen to see Armenia and the EU work together to continue Armenia’s reform process, free from external pressures.

We look forward to further EU engagement with Azerbaijan, and I hope that momentum can be built in negotiations towards an Association Agreement.

In time, we hope that the EU-Belarus relationship will improve; this is in Belarus’ hands and I continue to urge Belarus to make the necessary reforms to make this a reality.

The EU door remains open, and this is our message for Ukraine too.

It was deeply disappointing that the government of Ukraine announced last week that it had decided to put signature of an Association Agreement on hold. I sincerely hope that the Ukrainian government will resume its preparations to sign the Association Agreement soon; and I urge them not to lose a moment in effecting the reforms that the country needs. Ukraine’s leaders have a historic choice before them, to embrace the long-term vision of a European future and the prosperity and stability which that brings, or to turn the clock back and turn away from the world’s largest and most successful trading bloc.

No-one is arguing that transformation or modernisation is easy or quick.  But the experience of countries such as Poland, the Baltic States, Slovakia and Slovenia shows that it can be done successfully where the political will exists.  And what the serious studies on the impact of Association Agreements have shown is that these accords offer a real opportunity for living standards in this region to catch up with those of their neighbours.

It is in everyone’s interests that Eastern Partnership countries become more prosperous and stable. Opening the door to the West doesn’t close the door to the East. The Eastern Partnership is good for the region and for its neighbours.

In Vilnius the EU is demonstrating its commitment to the Eastern Partnership.  The Eastern Partnership is not just a concept or slogan for the UK or EU.  It is an expression of EU commitment to its eastern partners, to their economic prosperity and their future.  The Association Agreements offer hope to the region that the economic prosperity and standards of living of the EU can be theirs too. This will take time, and no one is blind to the challenges, but what these Agreements show is that in a time of change, the EU stands by your side.

Bulgaria Builds Fence on Border With Turkey

Բուլղարիա,Թուրքիա, սահման, արգելապատնեշ

Bulgarian authorities say they are constructing a fence on a 30-kilometer (19-mile) stretch of the country’s 274-kilometer (171-mile) border with Turkey in an effort to stop illegal immigration.

Defense Minister Angel Naydenov said Thursday that the 3-meter-high (10-foot-) fence is expected to be ready by February. It will run mainly through forested, hilly areas where visibility for border patrols is limited.

Bulgarian authorities have rejected accusations the fence was aimed at keeping out refugees from Syria and other war-ravaged countries seeking to get into the EU. The country has faced an influx of migrants that far outnumbers its capacity.

During the Cold War, Bulgaria’s barbed-wire borders prevented its citizens from fleeing to the West, but after the country joined NATO in 2004 all fences were removed.

Japanese man wins fortune from hospital after birth-switch resulted in him being raised in poverty instead of riches

ծննդյան նշան

An elderly Japanese man who was given to the wrong parents at birth has successfully sued a hospital because he was raised in poverty instead of in a life of luxury.

The 60-year-old man, who is keeping his identity secret, said he wishes he could ‘roll back the clock’ after learning that his real parents were wealthy and that his true brothers enjoyed a lavish lifestyle.

Instead, the man was raised by his non-biological mother, who was also struggling to support her other children following the death of her husband.

The baby she came away with by mistake from the hospital 60 years ago grew up through a life of welfare hardship and became an unmarried truck driver.

Now a Tokyo district court has ordered the hospital to pay £250,000 in damages for its 1953 error, which saw the man switched with another baby boy who came into the world just 13 minutes later.

The decades-old mistake was realised when the wealthy family’s three younger brothers had DNA testing done on their oldest sibling – who looked nothing like them – after their parents died.

Then they set out checking hospital records before confirming the identity of their biological eldest brother last year.

All four brothers – including the one who should have had a more lowly upbringing due to the accidental switch – have now formed a bond and are working on rebuilding the lost years.

Police Arrest Nigerian With Cocaine Worth $500,000

Police say they have arrested a 28-year-old Nigerian carrying a half million dollars’ worth of cocaine stashed in speakers that he carried from Sao Paolo, in Brazil, to the northern Nigerian city of Kano.

Commandant Ambrose Umoru said Maduagwu Nnaemeka was arrested at KanoInternationalAirport on Wednesday with 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds) of pure cocaine with a street value of 81 million naira.

Nnaemeka told reporters at a news conference Wednesday that he was given the speakers at Sao Paolo airport by a Nigerian stranger who begged him to carry them to Kano. He said he knew nothing about the cocaine they carried.

The U.N. Office on Drugs and Crimes estimates between 25 and 66 percent of cocaine bound for Europe from South America passes through West Africa.

LOOming on the horizon… the precarious privvy perching over a 2,600m Siberian cliff and frequented by the brave, stupid or very desperate

This loo with a view has been voted the most extreme place to do you ablutions in the world.

The toilet serves a remote weather station at Kara-Tyurek in the Altai Mountains and is perched on a cliff 2,600 metres above sea level.

Plucky staff who work at the station are visited once a month by a postman who collects weather data, and a helicopter which delivers food, water and wood for the stove each autumn.

But they have to be very daring indeed to use the terrifying toilet and will surely try very hard to go as little as possible when manning the remote station.
People have been using the precarious potty since 1939, in the region with a name which translates as Black Heart in South Altayan language.

A recent survey of unusual toilets around the world found the Altai privvy to be the number one most extreme toilet.

Other toilets with star quality were also named in different categories in the survey.

The most expensive loo was named as the Swiss Horn Gold Palace in Hong Kong which is made from three tons of gold and took several years to assemble.

Scariest toilet in the world was found sitting on top of an open lift shaft on the 15th floor of a building in Guadaljara. Mexico. A single layer of glass is in place, which constructors say will protect anyone using the toilet from falling.

The 6ft 10ins teenager who can grow two inches in two WEEKS because of rare disorder (and he’s STILL growing)

article-2514288-19AC870600000578-451_634x989

A teenager suffers from a bizarre ‘growth spurt’ condition which means he can grow up to two inches in just two weeks.

Josh Gott’s condition is so rare that it doesn’t even have a name and his mother fears her giant son will only get bigger and bigger.

The 18-year-old is thought to be the only person in the world to suffer from a bizarre disease which causes dramatic and sudden spurts of growth.

Josh is currently 6ft 10in, despite his mother Sharon Elston being just 5ft and his father only 5ft 4in.

Ms Elston, 44, has spent years trying to find out what is wrong with her son.

She has now been told by scientists in Newcastle that Josh has a chromosomal disorder – but it’s so rare that little is known about it. There is no cure.

It causes Josh, of Stockton-on-Tees, to have rapid spurts of growth – which normally last around two weeks and can see his height rise by as much as two inches.

Ms Elston said: ‘It is a nightmare – I can’t get clothes to fit him. I’m having to look online and am thinking about ordering trousers from America.

‘I don’t know where it will stop. Josh is forever banging his head on door frames and has trouble going down the stairs.

‘People stare at us. We are an odd sight, as I am so short, and he is so tall. People don’t understand what is wrong.

‘He’s not going to stop growing. He once grew two inches in two weeks.’

She first noticed there was something wrong with Josh’s growth when he was about 11 years old.

She said: ‘He was just shooting up. I didn’t understand it. I went to the doctors dozens of times, but they told me it was just his age, and that it was normal.

‘But I knew different, instinct told me there was a problem. He was the tallest boy in his class, and me and his dad are both so short.’

After years of speaking to doctors, Josh’s case was finally referred to leading research scientists at Newcastle’s Centre for Life and a definitive diagnosis was delivered about 18 months ago.

Josh has a small deletion on one of his chromosomes which involves three genes.

One of these genes is the main antagonist (or threat) to the growth hormone.

It is different disorder from Gigantism, whose sufferers over produce the hormone.

In a letter written by Consultant Clinical Geneticist Doctor Miranda Splitt to Josh’s doctor she said: ‘There are a few other patients who are known to have a deletion of the three genes but all of them have a much larger deletion involving many more genes.

‘I have asked for more information about the patients with overlapping deletion to see whether any of them have very tall stature but have so far had not had any replies from the clinicians involved.’

Josh’s mother was told researchers had contacted colleagues across the world, but no-one else had seen a chromosome disorder that mirrors her son’s.

She said: ‘This new information means very little to Josh, but to me it means a lot.

‘I have always said, “there’s something else”, but now I would like it do him some good, I don’t want it just to be interesting research.’

Josh has also suffered from a number of other serious problems throughout his life, including brain damage, epilepsy, scoliosis (curvature of the spine), Perthes (a hip growth disorder), autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

But Ms Elston, who works transporting children with various mental and physical disabilities to school, says she always knew there was something undiagnosed which could be crucial for Josh’s welfare.

Around two-and-a-half years ago she refused to leave the University Hospital of North Tees until a doctor took the problem seriously.

She said: ‘I told the doctor my height, and Josh’s dad’s height, and I insisted that something was done. I said I would not leave unless it was. I was determined.’

It was then that the case was finally referred to the Centre for Life.

She added: ‘I just hope something can be done to stop him from growing. I dread him getting taller.’

Prime Minister Pays Working Visit To Shirak Marz

Վարչապետ, Գյումրի

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan traveled today to Shirak Marz of Armenia for a working visit.

His first stop was at Pemzashen community where the Prime Minister attended the opening of a reconstructed kindergarten building. On this occasion, Tigran Sargsyan welcomed and congratulated the residents of the community: “A campaign pledge made by the President of the Republic of Armenia has been fulfilled.
